Has anyone ever kept their PE cardboard luggage tags from a flight and then reused them on an Econ flight? Just wondering whether;
a)they would end up in the PE/UC luggage bin and out on that carousel at the other end
b) whether they'd just get ripped off and slung into Econ luggage
c) they'd get totally 'lost in the system' for being so cheeky

Not that I am comtemplating this of course [:I] ;)

My tags stay on, but it doesn't matter now as there is a computersied baggage picking system which will load the bag based on the barcode on the sticker.

Thanks,
Richard

I always keep mine and would never put them back on in case the check in agent just ripped them off and binned them!

Ah right, ok then, that sorts that one! Didn't think it could be as simple as a cardboard tag else everyone would be onto it! Thanks, Richard.

Well it doesn't stop the fools on Ebay proclaiming this when they sell PE and UC tags.

I have only been asked once in 100+ flights to remove my Upper Tags, when flying in a lower class. Pointing out the fact that it is computerised and that I was entitled to priority luggage handling as a FC Au soon remedied that.

Thanks,
Richard

At check in for MCO recently the agent made a point of sticking PE tags under the bar code stickers when labelling cars seats that were to go in the hold. I assumed that this was to indentify them for priority handling.

Richard does the computerised sticker hold the FC Au information or is it just the Au card that makes the handler aware of the situation.

It is the sticker, I was over in LAX when it was being introduced and they were working to get the functionality working; basically if a Gold is flying in another class than Upper Class, then they need to make a change so that it is loaded into the J bin. I believe it is all workign fine now, it was hard work for the handlers as they were having to manually pull FC Au bags and load them in the correct bin.

So sticking Gold tags on your bag, bought via Ebay won't work either. And yes there are people selling FC Au tags even though they are personalised (embossed) to the correct member.

Thanks,
Richard

Thanks you're a mind of information - just wondered in case the Au tags ever fell off as the stickers are much more secure.

Well the rate I used to go through tags, either the handlers were stealing them (though there was a vicious rumour that Pix was acquiring them [}:)]) or I was just unlucky.

Thanks,
Richard

Hi everyone!

Do they still stick Upper Class tags on Upper bags or do they not both anymore as it is computerised?

Thanks,

Sarah

Is there really a black market in luggage tags? [:0] The mind boggles. Je suis naive! [:I]

Hi Sarah,

First of all welcome!

Yes they still do put tags on for PE and UC - they are meant to be for your contact details.

It also helps as a secondary in case any issues arrive with baggage loading.

Thanks,
Richard

Its interesting because many of the comments are true..
1) yes it is computerised (most airports)
2) fc do get priority but I would be interested to what extent? I mean so many people have red cards

Sometimes as staff they put J tags on for us to help with companions making our crew transport so maybe they smi manual sort

I know I've had problems in the past flying back from SFO, where they forgot to attach UC tags at check-in and hence my bag was loaded into the Y bin and came off pretty much last as well back at LHR.

I even had VS baggage agents going in and looking for my bags as in the end both bags took well over 45 mins to come off.

I was informed by customer relations after complaining at the time, that SFO only had manual baggage priority sorting - no tags, therefore, no priority. That was back in 2004 and I was still Ag at that time as well.

If I'm flying UC on both legs now, I leave on the UC tags from the out-bound leg just in case.

We do tend to forget that UK airports have had a pretty advanced baggage handling system for many years now and other countires are still catching up.

The new LHR T5 baggage handling system looks pretty high-tech as I'm sure I read somewhere that they will place micro-chips in/on all baggage and will be able to see straight away where you bag is in the system.

Regards

The current barcode system at LHR also does this.
