Harvey World Travel (HWT) is relaunching in the UK as ‘Harvey World Travel, the travel professionals for Virgin Holidays.’

The Australian owned company are planning 300 High Street stores, with 100 of them to open shortly. They will sell 'the complete range of Virgin Holidays'

Wasn't there a company called "Worldwide Holidays" or "Worldwide Travel" or something like that, who did something extremely similar for a while a few years back?

... and didn't they become part of the Virgin "empire" in the end, too? [:w]

Yes - it was Worldwide Travel - they were based in Great Yarmouth if I recall. They then rebranded to VirginTravelstore but the business was disbanded a couple of years ago.

Thanks,
Richard

EDIT (RichardMannion):

I did do a search and actually foudn it was referencing a thread on this site, but the archives are unavailable currently.

I stand to be corrected, but weren't they the company that turned into 'The Virgin Travelstore' that Shaun (vs932) used to work for?

You are spot on Nick - has anyone seen him lately as he always used to be a good source of info when it came to making VH bookings and what you could and couldnt do in relation to VS

I used WWT on 3 or 4 occasions - before I ever found a site like this - and they were good - always had the best price and they gave 10% of VH brochures without being in the FVC[y]

Unfortunately not. He's not logged on since (literally - spookily enough) a year ago. Obviously with VTS disappearing, he'll have a new role with another company, but I don't know where... [:I]

[:I] - Well the link worked, it just didn't look to aesthetically pleasing...

But then I am not a moderator, never have been and never will be - one has to be a role model first [:p]

Thanks,

Spelling and correct hyperlinking seams to be an issue some of the 'whatever-the-title-is' team.

While shopping in my local High Street this morning - along with the present Mrs Treelo - spotted the Harvey TA, with the Virgin Holidays logo sharing the outside name hoarding. Quick look through the glass showed half the store given over to VH while the other _ (under the Harvey logo) was selling mainly European (and Australian obviously) hols.

Has anyone else seen any of these shops open? There is one opening within the Morrisons Supermarket in Thamesmead South East London.

Morrisons?? How bizarre, strange place to have a holiday shop[?], whilst I love shopping, the weekly food shopping trip is a chore and I just want to rush home not wait for my frozen goods to defrost whilst Im picking my next hol.

There used to be a travel agent (Co-Op I think) in my local Asda store - it only lasted about 6 months. The only thing I saw people using it for was for currency exchange and picking up hol brochures on their way out.

We have a Thomas Cook in our local Sainsburys - it's always empty though.

You must stop shopping at ALDI and Netto and make a visit to Sainsburys at Hessle:D. There's been a travel agent inside for yonks.

Also Morrisons on Holderness Road(when it was a Co-Op, LEOS) had a Co-OP Travelcare inside.

Im a Beverley boy, so it was always Safeway (R.I.P) or Morrisons/Tesco, never been to Sainsbury's (far too expensive for me) - I will have to investigate - back OT I still think its a stupid idea.
