Just to throw my 2 cent's in,im with the majority of people here,I started out in Y then decided to spring for PE one time,got hooked,my tale take a slight twist in that I started dating an FA so got "upgraded" pretty much on every flight.Now however I save my money,use the tips that I have gotten from being a member here and save miles like a lunatic and take advantage of cheap upgradable tickets.

For example after a year of hard saving I had managed to save just over 100k miles to go with the miles I already had,2 UC tickets later I spent $422 for two tickets,plus of coursed the money it cost to get those miles,but this was money that was going to be spent anyways,I just decided that spending it in such a way that I would earn miles made sence to me.

While it can be a bit daunting at first to see so many PE & UC flyers, once you stick around a while you'll see that with the right course of action, anyone can fly UC!

As people have said, this site is great to find out how pretty much anyone can travel in the premium classes - if only once every year or two. If you know where to look and are willing to sacrifice extras such as flexibility and limo transfers, with a little saving it can become within reach.

I have never flown with virgin but i cant wait to book my first flight with them, I will be travelling in uc but only with miles collected with my cc. I have my own small business building houses for private clients and use the card for business.I believe that if you are willing to work for the good things in life then you should enjoy all the fruits of your hard work. I hope i dont sound too earnest but , some times people only see the rewards of hard work not the sacrifices.

One day I'd like to try UC but unless it's an upgrade I just can't justify the cost/benefits over PE or Y.

For example our trip to LA in August in PE is about£4.5k for three of us but would be more than double that in UC. Our Feb trip to LA was in Y and we did a miles + money which was only £800. It's a big difference and if we want 4/5 holidays a year we have to compromise somewhere.

Like others we prefer to spend a lot when we get to our destination like good hotels and good cars.

But then I guess everyones different.

Personally I think UCS is better value for money £ for £ than PE

I think no matter what class you go, just getting the opportunity to fly in a plane and go abroad is brilliant, i feel very lucky that i am having my opportunity to do just that

Hear, hear, Bev! I quite agree.

Many moons ago when I was a student (many, many moons ago) the target was to go to Greece. In those days only the rich and famous flew and it was a two day rail journey to get there - not for the faint-hearted. I'm afraid we take air travel for granted now but still expect "rich and famous" service for Ryanair prices!

I'd have thought most of us here qualify as being the 'common man' (and woman too [:0]). I don't see any line drawn between who flies what class - after all, for most of us who don't fly for business, it's always a considerable outlay of funds to travel at all, and moreso for the odd times we can stretch to anything more than economy.

Other comments here are valid - once you've tried PE (or UC), then you've sort of tasted forbidden fruit - but I'm sure I'm not alone in having spent a long time not even being able to contemplate flying Virgin at all, much less in any other class than economy - when we travelled with our kids, we had to fly charter, as flights times 5 with VS just wasn't viable. And for a good while before that, we couldn't event hink about travelling abroad at all....
