HI everyone

I'll be flying VS econ from Sydney to London next month, i haven't flown since i was 10, which is over 30yrs so I don't know what to expect. I have read some horror stories about VS, which i would rather not believe, so I thought i would just ask a couple of questions here.

Do the FA's really get annoyed if PAX ask for drinks ? Can you just go to the Galley to ask for a coffee in between meal service or help yourself? I would hate to think I would annoy anybody.

The seat pitch from what i can gather is nothing to brag about, but from what i have read it's no different to Singapore Air seat pitch for economy. I am just over 5FT, am I going to have a problem there ?

Sorry in advanced if these questions seem silly, but I am a tad nervous and don't really know what i am in for .

I don't think you have anything to worry about. I've never had a problem when asking for a drink between meal services, when flying Y class.

Obviously if you go up the the galley and are polite they won't have a problem with it. If you walk in, interrupt what the FA's are doing and demand a drink then they'd probably get a little annoyed, but that's no different from any other airline.

As for the seat pitch, "some" seats aren't as generous as others. I'm 6ft, and there are particular seats that I avoid (mainly those with the IFE box under the seat infront of you on v|port aircraft).

Check out the seat ratings section of this website, select the type of aircraft you'll be on, and it should show you what seats you may wish to avoid. I have never felt that I don't have enough room, but there are particular seats that have less room than others.

Hopefully that helps you somewhat.

VS has excellent service, and I think you'll be very glad you've chosen to return to flight with VS :D

Thanks, i needed to hear that. I have looked at the seat ratings and it doesn't have one for my seat which is 57A, so it must not be too bad. With me I have short legs in anyways so I'm sure it will be ok

You can also change your seat on the VS website... so you could login and see what seats are available, and compare that to ratings on here (allowing you to pick a highly rated one :).

I am hoping I don't have anybody sit next to me, not that i am unsocialable or anything, but it would be nice to have abit more space, not only that I have a window seat and it would be much easier when you want to get out of your seat and not disturb the person next to me, one can only hope :).

Hi Bev
I'm about the same height as you and while the seat pitch isn't immense I find it just about bearable.I don't know what the odds of having an empty seat next to you for both sectors of the journey are but I wouldn't be afraid to ask anyone sitting next to you to allow you to get out to go to the loo walk about etc.I've never had a problem with the service in economy -cabin crew have brought drinks when I've requested and they usually leave water and fruit juice in the galley for you to help yourself to.
Hope you have a great trip to LHR and a happy family reunion.

Hi Bev

Never had a problem with requesting drinks on VS in economy. FA's for the most part I have always found to be good too.

Sure the legroom isn't wonderful at the back of the aircraft, but from experience the Airbus offers slightly better legroom than the 747, and at 6ft, I haven't ever got off thinking 'never again'.

You'll have v:port as the entertainment system, so sit back relax and enjoy the experience...... Hope you have a great time [y]

In the main, I've often found cabin crew happy to have something to do, and someone to chat with on long-haul flights. A crew member once said to me "There's only so many magazines to read and games of sudoku you can play".

On shorter flights (~6 hr), it can be quite busy all flight, especially if you've got a full meal service, duty free, and pre-landing drinks and snacks to serve. While the carts aren't always in the aisles, the galleys can still be a hive of activity as the flight attendants clear up from the previous service, and set the next one up.

Don't be afraid to ring your call bell if you need something and don't want to disturb the person next to you, too. I don't think I've ever been growled at for pressing the call bell.

From SYD-HKG, you may have an open seat next to you, as this sector is reported to not load as well as HKG-LHR which is almost always full (LHR-HKG-LHR is supposed to be going double-daily some time this year to provide extra seats, allowing space for more through pax).

Between SKD and HKG, you may have a mix of Australian, British and Oriental crew, as VS have crew bases in SYD and HKG. Between HKG and LHR, expect a mix of UK and HKG based people.

Cheers,
Mike
