Back in 2000 or so, Virgin Atlantic flew VS41/42 London Gatwick-San Francisco five times a week with a 747-200. Why did they have this flight in addition to the Heathrow service? Thanks in advance.

Guessing the LGW-SFO route closed when they started the LHR-SFO service? There may have been an overlap due to forward bookings?

This was a seasonal service which operated during the summer months to cope with the extra demand on this route. Sadly the VS041/042 was discontinued shortly after the tragic events of 09/11.

Based on the figures that Paul quoted yesterday - Hopefully VS will respond to the demand and add these extra seasonal sectors for next summer possibly?? Subject to metal availability of course [y]

SFO would certainly pay for the extra resource in my eyes.....:D
