Longer lines likely at LAX

Increasing traffic will lead to longer lines at ticket counters and security checkpoints, especially at LAX, where officials are scrambling to find 150 additional screeners by July 1. The facility is down from its complement of 2,001 full-time-equivalent screeners — the most in the country — because the federal government earlier this year shifted responsibility for hiring them to federal security directors at local airports.

Read the full article and it looks like we'll be checking in on line and getting to LAX early when we come back in September.

Is this really going to affect Virgin in the same way as the American domestic airlines?

When we came back in February we didn't have any problems at all with security at check in but I guess that was because it was low season.

Let's face it: LAX hasn't been a very friendly airport for awhile now. Judging from this article things will be worse before they are better.

Absolutely true, Bazz. SFO has the BART transportation system to and from the airport, plus the VS Clubhouse. (Placing bias hat on head) And for sightseeing there is no better city in the US with the possible exception of NYC.

As it's only a few weeks till we're off to LAX I was wondering if this tale of doom had actually transpired.

I'm posting this from the Air New Zealand lounge at LAX (a massive improvement over the old Maple Leaf lounge btw), and can say that from my experience the queue for security was no worse than I'm used too. If anything, the lines were shorter than I'd expect (though admittedly I went through somewhat early for VS24).

The arrangement is different than I'm used to from previous visits - looks like they've refreshed the facilities somewhat.
