The new Premium Economy Super Seat is our widest most comfortable seat ever and is about to blaze a trail through the class of travel that Virgin invented.

So what is it that sets the Super Seat apart from the competition? Your senses will be instantly stimulated by the sight, smell and touch of gorgeous purple leather. But as we said, it’s incredibly comfortable as well and comes with an additional two inch recline, adjustable headrest with wings, better tray table, lumbar support, in seat power, multi-position footrest and the IFE handset is now located in the seatback to release that all important extra width. And it is the extra width that will grab a lot of the headlines because at 21 inches it is wider than BA’s Club World business class seat.

The new Super Seat will enter service next week on A340-600 G-VEIL. This seat will also be fitted on subsequent A346 aircraft deliveries and will be rolling out across the fleet.

To be honnest only the A340-600s have had the new seat authorised... though I know we're planning a new focus on all aspects of Wcl to make it the best in the world, so watch this space.

Do you think comments on V-Flyer had anything to do with this?[8D]

It's about time! I always said PE was just economy with a foot rest.

VS use a Market Research Company and also the Inflight Questionaires to help make decisions. I spoke to a lady that works in this dept and mentioned V-Flyer and she said that the site does not get looked at for that reason by anyone at VS. They are aware of it but it does nto get used.

Well, it's about time, however... an additional two inches recline? I hope they make the tv screen swivel a bit more as it's hard to see it at the moment if the person in front has fully reclined. I assume seat pitch won't increase to cover this? [?]

So this won't be getting fitted on 747s, or am I mis-understanding this? Because if it isn't, again there's the old issue of inconsistency..

I hope the pic posted by s0436 isn't genuine as it doesn't have a LEGREST! A footrest is not the same thing! Economy seats have them on some airlines I believe. I hope they get it right after years and years of doing nothing to enhance the once-innovative product.

Congratulations VS on this innovation, yes, churlish though it may be, to do this on part of the fleet is wrong and it will lead to complaint. But good stuff.

Now what I'd like to see is, with the seat, the new cabin layout, dedicated PE FC, the next wonderful thing would be improvements to the food and its presentation. That would just about do it.

It is a genuine picture released internally by Virgin Atlantic, and you can see it for yourself in a few months.

And of course it will be rolled out throughout the fleet, it's just that the A346 will be the first to get the product.

Any comments on the lack of legrests? Most of the competition, BA, NZ, TG, etc. has these, as do the discounted J class seats on Maxjet, etc. Surely a retrograde step.

The New seats were partially fitted to V-WKD as a trial a pic was posted in the cabin view photo album in February.

And yes they do have leg rests fitted. I do hope that V-S actually roll these out over all the fleet and donÕt leave us with 4 different kinds of premium seats. ItÕs the worst thing about an airline when there is absolutely no consistence throughout their fleet. At least when B-A do a product update they do the whole fleet.

Link to the pic.

Actually Wayne, I'm not sure those trial ones ARE the final product that's now called the "SuperSeat". Notice that the IFE handset is on the side of the seat in that "live" picture?

Wont the IFE control still have to go in the arm rest in the bulk head rows as these seats will have a retractable IFE screen with not having a seat in front of it [:?]

As Paul says though that pic was only of the trial seat and we really do need to see a pic of the new PE seat in full service (hint hint)

Still not sure though if there's no leg rests, brings back bad memories of PE on the A343's

I think that may be because itÕs the front row of the seats and there is no screen in front or seat back to attach it to. The clue is in the positioning of the PTV screens. Anyway the seats look great very comfortable.

Thanks, hopefully it'll be rolled out quickly - unfortunately, it can't be applied to a single route at first like with SFO with UCS as AFAIK, the only route that is exclusively (theoretically)A346 is Tokyo which cannot be flown by just one aircraft[:?]

(Correct me if I'm wrong[:I])

HKG/SYD is pretty much a safe bet to always use an A346 as well (although there has been I think one occasion, when an A343 flew to SYD)

I have sat in one of the display models and found them very comfortable... A leg rest to me as 6"tall was not something I would notice as has no support for me anyway! but the new seat is nice though and im sure it is a step in the right direction

Milehigh

Do you know when these new seats will start to be retro-fitted in existing A346's?

I thought VS would do it at the same time as they re-configured the Y/W cabins but as G-VEIL shows, new config but no new seats yet [:?]

Thanks and Regards

What is the regular width on PE seats? Having looked at my desk where sometime ago I measured this out for larger customer and measuring today I make it that the width is going to be a whole inch wider![:?] I may well be wrong on this and hope to be proved so.
I can say I would definately be unhappy about no leg rest[V]. As well as the leather. When they have the cabin so warm it will be awfully uncomfortable[V]. The wings on the headrest have been standard in y on BA for ages.
However as I am primarily a LGW pax then I am not really bothered as these seats seem unlikely to make it on the LGW routes for one reason or another.[:w]
