Virgin to Mauritius?

When should we expect it to show up on the Virgin Web site for revenue or rewards bookings? I seem to remember 13 months which would mean October 06.... Would that be right?

Sorry to say so but me for one..... Never had a problem with economy on VS. Flown business regularly for work - both long and short haul, but when flying for pleasure have always taken the decision that 10 hours in a tube is still 10 hours in a tube. A bed / bar and access to a clubhouse just doesn't do it for me.

Not knocking the service VS offer in UC / PE, or the choice of those who use it regularly of course.... just always felt that the difference in money can buy more enjoyment either end of the flight.

Its an age old conundrum of course but I would love to take my family all in UC to MRU if I have to do 20 VS19/VS20's for work in Economy it would still be worth it just to see them enjoy the Upper Class Experience.

If I could pay I surely would.

Mauritius doesnt have to be *that* expensive either! I stayed in a lovely place where the beer and wine was decently prices and it was right on the beach.

As long as theres not a Cyclone, anytime.
Their Winter tends to get windy on the east coast (so St Geran and Touessrok suffer a bit) but otherwise its a good time to go for quieter hotels and less (dare I say annoying?) loud South Africans on the beaches (my best mates a 'Saffa', but honestly the variety you seem get on MRU make my blood boil).

Summer (Dec/Jan) tends to be as sticky as you'll find on any tropical island.

MRU is a GREAT budget destination. Lots of really good cheap hotels and villas/ appartments to rent. Of course the best hotels are amazing (though I found Touessrok staff to be condescending). Mini Mokes are really cheap to rent, though the roads and the drivers leave ALOT to be desired!

There's alot of industry, and a very packed-in heavy population on the island (pop. >1,000,000) which most resort guests never see. But some of my best times during my year there were drinking 'Rhum Arrange' in the interior industrial villages/towns and eating the hottest curries/samosas known to mankind. The mix of French, English, African, Chinese and Indian cultures is trully amazing. If you're there during Divali, Juliet 14, The Queens Birthday, Chinese New Year, etc get away from the hotels and find some town with a festival going on. It REALLY helps to speak at least some French, and learning a few Creole words will ensure locals piss themselves laughing and invite you for more Rhum!

Another Gem is La Reunion, just 45mins hop on a plane, beaches are nothing compared to MRU but the interior is STRAIGHT out of Lord of The Rings. With the world's most active volcano, and the drive into 'Cilaos' is something my mother will never forget (I'd lived there for 9 months and got pretty cocky about the hairpins).

Otherwise Madagascar is just over an hour away and simply defies description. If you want utter hideaway robinson crusoe idyll... the north west beaches or islands are unsurpassable.

Mayote and Comores, Zanzibar, Seychelles....

Hmmm, time to reminisce over my old photos.

Have just read the VS Press Release about the flights to Mauritius on this site. I note that SRB mentioned the number of seats in each class that the 747 400 has - he also mentioned that UC pax on this route [from Gatwick] would be able to benefit from a [list of other UC benefits snipped, but the list included] "a private massage room" - on a LGW/MAN 747 400.

Surely a mistake - or are the LGW/MAN 747 400's finally going to get the IFBT service?
