Thanks,

But if it's Amex, then surely it's going to be accepted ar far fewer places????? Have I missed something here???[:#]

Looks nice :D All we need now are the details for existing card holders and how to transfer.

I doubt balance transfers will be allowed as on the second page of the application there is:

2. We do not accept balance transfers from cards or loans issued by MBNA.

You would think that MBNA would allow a one off transfer if there was a migration process in place.

The rates are quite high, if you don't pay it off every month, it's not the most economical card to use.

Is it just me or have VS just pulled that page as all I get now is a landing page telling me the Amex card will be launched soon

Indeed, it's been removed already, well, that lasted a long time! ;) Maybe someone pressed the wrong button, as wasn't it meant to be launched on Monday?

I am sure that is what happened. I am just glad saw it before it was pulled, and I wasn't imagining it. [8D][:I]

Well interestingly I managed to complete the application form and register it before it disappeared!!

I then got a box at the end which said I should call a number Monday to Friday - so will do that and keep you posted???

It didn't say anything on the website about all the extra points you can earn or receive in bonuses.

I've taken quite a keen interest now, in looking in shops etc to see which cards they accept. So far, all the restaurants (admittedly, a small sample!) seem to take Amex, and do Sainsbury's .. which is encouraging, even though I don't use Sainsbury's. As most people here, will be keen to find out what the situation is for those of us who have the old card.... god, can you imagine if we lost the points??!!![:0]

Tesco's accepts Amex, as does Debenhams and M & S. John Lewis doesn't, so I suspect Waitrose won't either.... are you all bored yet???[:p]

That is the big debate, Tony. True, Amex isn't as widely accepted as Visa or Mastercard, but it does seem to be accepted at most of the big multinationals.. be it supermarkets, garages, hotels or High Street retailers.

I currently have a Marriott Visa as a back up to my Mastercard. Another possibility is the BAA Visa card, which is issued by RBS and I understand can earn FC points by converting them from BAA Worldpoints on a 1:1 basis.

Nick

Hi Nick,

The BAA Visa is actually issued by the Bank of Scotland not RBS and it is a 1:1 transfer from worldpoints to VS FC miles.

I have just made a balance payment to a VH booking online. Rather worrying is the lack of Amex option in the list of card types available to use.

Having scanned through the previous post showing the list of yes's or no's for acception of Amex cards - VH are posted as not accepting Amex?!?!?!?!?! [:?]

Richard originally posted that VA and VH bookings would earn 6 points per £ spent for the first 12 months.... Seems as if we may struggle to get VH to back that up???? [n]

I haven't had an Amex before so I am completely unaware of any limitations of use. [8D]

I have just tried making a dummy booking with VS online - They do give you the option to pay with Amex. [y]

Also, I have just tried a dummy booking with VH just to see if the Amex payment method is missing form the balance payment screen only - However, it seems that you cannot use it for new bookings either. [n]

Didn't someone say you had to phone VH to use Amex? Maybe they will change their online payments section soon though.

Ive got a VH reminder in front of me and the only cards it says they will not accept are Electron and Diners Club - so I guess this would have been the place to say if they did not accpet AMEX??

Just been scanning the VH smallprint. Seems that they only accept Amex over the telephone.......:D

V Hols only accept M/Card, Visa, Switch, Delta or Solo online. There's a note on their web site that says:

American Express is unfortunately not available on-line

I take that to mean that they do accept Amex off-line. I have asked them about Amex online but no reply yet.

I also wonder if they will waiver that nasty surcharge if paying with the new Amex card [:?]

Trying to contact VH is a difficult at the best of times - Everytime I want them I seem to have to wait for 15-20 mins to get the dreaded call centre.

VH introducing Amex for online purposes would be a good move - Would certainly save on wasted time. [:p]

Anybody know why they can accept it over the telephone and not online??? Surely this will also be the case for other companies you would think ?? [:?]

I assume they are using a different merchant to process it than their other cards, maybe they got a better deal? It could also be to persuade you not to use Amex as they do tend to charge the retailer more in fees.
