This is the main V-Flyer Forum for general discussion of everything related to flying with Virgin-branded travel companies.

I was informed by t'other half last night that I have become obsessed with V-Flyer/VS and all things planes and spend far too much time on this site[:0] - which after the initial shock and dismissive reply got me thinking and I realised that I am kinda obsessed [:I] - but in a good way me thinks [y]

I enjoy learning about VS and the friendly, fun banter/discussions on the forums makes it the perfect place to learn, plus I have been able to help many friends/work mates with advice and tips on all things VS and other general travel tips, which is only a good thing, isn't it? [?]

Just wondered then if anybody else on here has had similar comments made to them and how they reacted/responded, I don't want to be thought of as a geek by my loved one (maybe I am though [:?]) but also I don't want to stop using this great site :D - Help please!

Neil.

Welcome to the Club :D;)

I am currently sat in the lobby of the Westin in Kuala Lumpur. It is 91 degrees outside, the pool is beckoning, but I am 'just getting my mail, and having a look at V-Flyer' [:I][:I]

Next thing is the dreaded V-Flyer pink anorak!!!

My friends tell me I'm obsessed with V-Flyer and flying Virgin. One couldn't understand why I would fly VS to SYD and not Quantas.... (hmm, let me think TRIPLE MILES!!!!)

My brother also thinks I'm a plane snob and mocked me when I checked the forums every day when in LAS with him. And don't even get him started on V-Flyer meetings :D

One FSM even thought we were a bit geeky for having a Virgin fan site!

And now I regulary use airliners / jetphotos (great photos John!) to look at other airlines premium cabins [:I]

Be proud of it thats what I say!

You are not alone !

I certainly get concerned about the time I spend reading this site's posts new and old when I should be doing other things. Once I've worked through the history I'll be onto just looking at the new posts which hopefully will take far less time[ii]

Luckily (?) this is only my (and possibly my employer's) concern as my partner has long had me down as an anorak for the time I spend on my music sites and groups and ceased to enquire why I'm spending so much time on the computer.

Hello, my names PVGSLF and I'm a Virgaholic!

Since I am probably one of the furthest east on this site I get to play night watchman whilst the rest of you are all sleeping. Believe it or not, I have been the only one logged in at times, though I am sometimes joined by some of our West Coast Cousins!

I too have suffered the stigma of being called obsessive, and friends and colleages feel my travel plans always revolve around maxing out on miles. But they are soon silenced by the useful travel advice I'm able to give them and some hard facts that I have learnt from this board, the best being my recent flights:

Typical cost of Y ticket = £500
Typical cost of J ticket = £3500 (that's seven times the price!)

Mileage reward cost of Y ticket = 60,000
Mileage reward cost of J ticket = 100,000 (that's less than twice the cost!)

Now, i would never have realised this without my obsession with V-Flyer! And I'm already 30,000 miles back in credit towards the next reward due to company paid tickets and 'careful' use of credit cards.

Yup I am addicted, mainly because of how open minded and friendly the forum is.

I have managed to help a lot of people from stuff learned here.

I am not sure geek is the right word, there must be a more Gucci term for us, its not as if we are trainspotters is it.

Neil,
In a few months I'll have been a V-Flyer fan for three years. When I first shared with family and friends that I'd "met" some great people online, well, you can imagine their reaction. [:0] Now, several years later I've had the pleasure of meeting over thirty of my fellow V-Flyers in person, some in the US and some in the United Kingdom, thanks to the always fun social events we put together.

We are an eclectic bunch, but as Egg said, we're open minded and we have a lot of fun, and we share an interest in all things Virgin Atlantic.

If you had to pick something to be obsessed with, I think you've picked well![y]

Chuck - I get the feeling that the "regulars" on here get on really well and are very friendly, I found it a bit difficult to start with as everybody seems to know each other, but I've got into it more and i feel much more comfortable now :D

I did wonder when I was writing my OP if it was a good thing to post it or not, thought it might make a few V-flyers wonder about how much they use the site, like it did me when I was told last night that I did [:I]

I have to agree with some people on here that we can all have a laugh at each other on here (unlike on a.net where you get constant Airbus v Boeing wars and arguments).

I like it here because it costs nothing to sign up for the forums (unlike on a.net)and if you really like it, you pay a small fee for membership. This means a lot to me if, you're like me and haven't got much money cos everyone pays enough for Internet connection as it is. Forget the so-called 'free broadband for life' offers that some companies trick you into believing.

Getting back on topic, the people on here are friendly, knowledgable, keen and funny. That's why I spent more time on here when i joined up reading the posts, than revising for exams[:I]

Everyone should be thanked for all this, but if someone had to be singled out it should be 'pixuk' and his team of directors/moderators. Together, you've made a forum that is obsessive for all the right reasons:D Well done[^]
