Accommodation Only

How competitive are VH when booking just your hotel rooms. I assume that you would get the FV discount on top of any booking too.

Staying in Vegas in November and have still not booked a room. I need a room for 4 nights Mon-Thurs.

My experience is that they are always competitive - had an occasion to book a hotel in SA and they had by far the best rate!!

Guess its the same as always - search the net - ask the hotels direct for a deal and then take your choice!!!

I also find them quite competitive on Accom only, the 10% FC discount helps, but i always check the hotels direct as they quite often have special offers on etc

I agree with Mark and Neil. Check the VH "extra day" rates then check the hotel websites. If you're in Vegas on weekdays that are neither holiday nor host to conventions you should get a good rate. VH smooths their rate out a bit (no difference between weekend and weekday) but the hotels don't (or didn't used to).

Thats true Paul, I was looking at the Bellagio site the other day and I could stay on a monday for $98 but by Sat is was up to $248, where as VH spread the costs over all the days.

I used VH for accommodation only during our trip to New York City last Jun. The room was great, albeit I paid for an upgrade, and the 10% FVC discount came in handy too. I would use them again [y]

Neil- When were the $98 deals at the Bellagio for ?- the lowest rate I can ever seem to get a on the Bellagio website is $169.Am I looking in the right place (promotions)?

Julie - I honestly cannot remember the date, I have been playing with loads of different dates to be honest, we are looking to go next Sept and cannot book yet so have just been testing out different dates/times of the year etc to give me a feel of prices and how they change, sorry can't be more help but if I spot it again I will let you know.

Thanks Neil- I'm watching the site virtually daily as we've a booking for November (which will be cancelled and re-booked if the rates we originally booked come down.Unfortunately they havne't as yet).

If its anything like my experience for our Spring trip, I had to book by phone (thro' FVC) into an upgraded room because the VH allocation for my selected hotel had already been booked. No hassle though, and the room was really nice.

I now don't know if I should cancel my booking at The Flatotel and go for The Renaissance Times Square with VH, which is slightly more expensive but I think it is a nicer hotel, but it's only showing a twin room. [?]

The Renaissance is really nice, we stayed there in March this year, here is our review of the hotel, and would totally give it a big[y][y].

As for the room type, don't think the hotel as what I would consider a twin roon (ie: 2 single beds) as we got the option of a room with 2 double beds or one king size bed, we just requested a king size bed when booking with VH and then when we checked in they asked which we wanted.

Just an addendum really. VH have updated their web site so you can enter your FC number when you book and you can pay with Amex. The surcharge was wrong though, only £1.50 [?] Hopefully they won't forget to include my 10% discount either!

I thought that to get the 10%FC discount you couldn't do it online, so is this a new feature then?

I still don't like the way on some pages the drop down list for who's going doesn't include 1. Don't VH think single people go on holiday? Ok, we do normally stay at home and spend hours searching for a partner on the internet, but we do go away sometimes! [:p]

I've *always* put my FVC number in and *always* had to phone or email to ask for the additional discount to be applied. Not a big issue, just a tad irritating.

Also - if the surcharge to which Locutus refers is the cc surcharge they charge you one whack for the deposit and another when you pay the remainder.

We always find them competative even on some chain hotels (althought most now gaurentee the best rate direct with them) We have booked room only with them for the past five years to orlando and our UC flights direct with VA.

I always find that calling then about 5/5:30 on Sunday afternoon you normally get through with very little delay and they are always helpful.

Last time we spent about five minutes slagging off how excessive the Z upgrades are now with them and about 15 minutes talking about the new flats that are being built next to their office, she even held on after they closed to secure us the rooms (and her commision of course)
