Mind you, what a lot of moaners we are. Imagine the headlines 'Blair (sorry Mr) flies UC, obviously paid to much, Cherie's speaking engagements pay', 'Blair flies Y, tries to be man of the people, fails', 'Blair tries PE, takes the middle road, fails'. I found the comment about paying for his security particularly odd, let's take away Maggie's forthwith everytime she travels, after all, who's going to hurt a LOL.
Whatever some people do they are dammed, whether it's a political damnation or not.

I did not mean to start a political thread. I just thought it was a valid point of interest. As for calling PM's Mr or Mrs, history tends to just call them an 'ism. And lets be honest about it, Mr Blair or Blarism will be history pretty soon.
I believe he had a 'must travel Y ticket' as he could not get out on a BA. SRB travels on these, being upgraded if there are any seats available. If the flight is full, they will off load Y passengers to accomadate. I doubt he used flight deck rest like SRB does though.

Just to throw in my 2c worth about the reference by surname..... how do most of us refer to Winston Churchill ? ... I would say mostly plain and simple 'Churchill' ... its the same with many leaders in other parts of the world too .... 'Bush' 'Kennedy' as other examples .... I really dont think it means either way whether they are respected or not justr because we dont talk about them as Mr or Mrs.... certainly on my part its just a simple term of reference. A different story altogether if you were to meet them of course.

Back to the original topic... Blairs had ALLOT of hassle in the past from the press for flying First on his holidays... especially once when the kids flew out seperate and got the whole F cabin.
He can obviously afford J... and indeed at most of the airlines I worked for he would almost certainly be upgraded due to CIP/VIP status... its most likely, if he did fly Wcl that instructions were given NOT to upgrade... the spin doctors probably thought it good to be seen more as a man of the people.
Still don't know if he DID fly on us, but if he did and in Wcl then I'm certain that would be deliberate.

Not trying to bring back the politics of the thread, but just to throw my 2 American cents into it. I've always liked Blair. Maybe I like him because of what I have to compare him to... Bush isn't exactly a model of what every American is like. Personally I fear that people in foreign countries who have no idea what Americans are like, see Bush on TV, mispronouncing the word Nuclear, or almost choking to death on a pretzel, and laugh at us. At least Blair is cultured, and can act like a Prime minister infront of a camera. I don't believe anybody in your House of Commons or anywhere has shot their buddy in the face, as our Vice President did. At least from my perspective, the British government always comes off more professional about everything. I think if Blair had stood up against Bush on the whole Iraq subject, he would be more respected by the British people- and maybe had a chance at preventing, or at least delaying this Iraq mess. I don't know the man, I've just always liked him, and I envy the British government in many ways... most of us here in America would love to see a National Health system over here... sure it may have problems, but at least you have one.

I love that movie! One of my favorites...
Saw that film and thought that part of it was great. Though i cant see it happening for real in my life time. Did anyone see the comedy bit where bush strokes blairs arseit was really funny (though you only see there bottom halves).

Just an FYI,the Britanna more than paid her own way while she was in service.
While in port she would host dinner's that were the MOST have ticket for anyone in the area.Major deals were done on board that probably would not have been done otherwise.

In any other circumstances, I think I'd agree with you. Cultured, yes he seems to be. But that doesn't mean you're a good politician or otherwise. I realise you see things from a slightly differetn perspective, but the government here is anything but professional. Yes, it's true that most administrations are a shamble to a greater or lesser degree - but I shuddered when these people came to power, being old enough to remember when the party was last in power. Sadly, I haven't been proved wrong, you only have to look at our health service (what's left of it) and our schools. It's bluster and little substance, spin and no results.

Actually I quite like Bush, ok his does make a few humerous gaffs but I think he is a decent man, standing up for what he believes is right and someone who has the bottle to follow things through, rather than a PM who acts more like a lapdog everyday, IMHO I would rather have a Bush than a Blair anyday.
