THANK YOU SO MUCH
V-FLY

I would travel. Prepare yourself for a delay though as T3 will be nothing short of a nightmare today. I cannot see VS not letting you travel, maybe worth a quick call to clarify though. Security will be tight so It will be safe to travel in my eyes also these people cannot be seen to have won by upsetting best made travel plans.

Good luck on what will be a tough day. :)

Thats good, I wondered how they were going to get around the people who actually need things on flight, ie medical etc. Guess VS had no option but to waiver any excess baggage charges.

Nothing on VS website about passengers altering flights (unlike BA) -looks like they'll operate as near to normal as they can in the circumstances.

What a mess! In some ways this is a good thing that only the bare minimum is allowed onto the aircraft, but i dont like the idea of my laptop in the hold!

Was expecting a nightmare journey into Gatwick this morning but strangely enough hardly any queue on the spur rd. Have not been into South Terminal as yet but North Terminal seems OK, many flights on "Gate Closing" - also saw a couple of a/c taking off as I walked from car park.

Probably because Gatwick isn't on the M25.

Thought - will airlines now think to have books on board? I find it hard to imagine boarding a flight without some reading material. No reading, no music of my choice. Oh, and the new service of having your questions answered by text - what a laugh!

My take on things, from watching too many action movies, along with the fact that anything electronic plus liquids are banned, is that the plot perhaps involved some innocent looking items. A couple of innocuous clear liquids when mixed together and having electricity applied could well make a bang.

I think if this is the case, then the current restrictions are really the only defence. Put all the potential component parts seperately in the Hold, thereby offering no chance for the "nutters" to assemble them and set them off.

Any already assembled parts in hold luggage should be picked up by the existing methods that have kept us safe since Lockerbie. And perhaps like the "shoe bomber" they are devices that need to be carefully positioned against the skin of the aircraft to do any damage.

It's going to be hell travelling for a while for sure, but at least this time i think the reaction to the threat is a very effective one.

But to keep the travelling public on side, I think the nature of the plot and why these current restrictions are going to defend us SHOULD be made public by the government.

Oh, and VS better start putting some more useful things in the amenity packs again!

Anyone thought of calling VS to see if they're gonna provide books? Or a wider range of papers.... crikey, a 10 hour flight is going to be endless.....[:(!]

All you are doing on this thread is moaning and being utterly self centred. I think we should all be grateful that a) they foiled a plot and b) they are still doing their best to keep us all flying no matter how restrictive.
Do us all a favour and cancel any flights you have booked [:p]
Failing that, why not wait a couple of weeks - I'm sure some restrictions will be lifted by the time you fly.

Bit harsh and uncalled for Daywalker! It might look like we are moaning and I am sure everybody will agree that it is good this was spoiled, but I imagine if it was you sat at the airport with a 10hr flight ahead of you without any carry on luggage you might have a different POV, people are entilted to express there opinion.

Surely this is a big bonus for the airside shops! You can presumably still buy pretty much anything you like there... bottles of flamable liquid.... batteries etc.

Or are they shutting them down for the duration as well?

Please don't flame me,

But is anyone like me just a little bit suspicious about this, could it possibly be a politically motivated event. Prime minister abroad etc but we are still looking after you and on the ball.

Its difficult to know these days, we used to get these things from the Government during the 1st and 2nd World War to polarise public opinion.

The Dilemma being wishing it was not a real threat, and wondering if it is. To be honest I would rather this was one big mistake than a real threat.

Needless to say if the Government has foiled a real operation against us it will still end up being our Governments fault in one way or another anyway once the media get their teeth in to it.. And if something did happen, that would be their fault as well.

And on a glib note, prehaps we can have a better amenity kit now being as we can't take anything onboard.

Heathrow now closed to incoming flights, so I'd imagine they're all working flat out to get some flights out to clear the congestion. G-VFLY, I'd think you will go, just very delayed.

As I write I am on the FGW train to Reading and can see the heavies coming in to land, but no smalls.

BTW EGG I think you're bonkers :D - we may all distrust politicians but really [B)]

Oh an another thought, do you think Dixons goods in T3 are screened as well as passengers? Though on the plus side at least you could buy something to amuse you, bet they're doing a roaring trade!

Sure, but none of the people on here moaning at the moment are sat at the airport, the person I was replying to doesn't fly for 36 day for gods sake.
I would happily fly without my ipod/laptop etc as long as I was getting to my final destination and am grateful for the additional securoty checks. You've got a bit of IFE with VS in any case, even if it's not your bag I'm sure you could make use of it on these occasions.
It's not as if you're left with absolutley nothing on board is it?

Daywalker, I don't disagree with you, but no need for the harsh tone! After all we all agree the this is a terrible thing.

Egg - maybe its to boost John Prescott's popularity rating after all he is running the country now! but best not to get onto politics again;)

I dont think people are moaning to be honest. To me this seems to be a brick it reaction by the authorities and they have stopped any kind of attack based on what they know about the original plots by banning pretty much every item of hand luggage.

You hand luggage is screened. So are they now telling us that the screening they have been using for years that they have in place isn't good enough. If it is then why aren't they using it now. If they fear its a mixing of liquids to form an explosive device, then just ban liquids!

Dont get me wrong I would like to see overeaction rather than none at all, but I hope these changes aren't in place for too long. We need to show these bastards that they can't disrupt our lives.

BTW I am flying tomorrow.

Wonder whether flights awaiting to leave for LHR are being grounded or whether they are being diverted to LGW, STN etc.......?

Nothing on any site that I can see to confirm.

You wouldn't be the first to think I was bonkers[:I] but my hearts in the right place.

I just hope its sorted soon and the airport and airline staff don't get hammered by bad tempered people moaning about how terrible it will be for their bored kids on flights, theres some mothers kicking off on the Dibb site about the inconvenience[n] although most people just want to be safe.

Please don't let his thread get personal guys!

We all have our opinions and should respect others points of view.

I expect the "Critical" threat level will last only as long as the Security Forces feel there may still be others involved that they have not yet apprended. As the bomber did on 7/7 with the bus, they may be tempted to deviate from their original (apparently foiled) plot and just try to do as much damage as possible.

Patience and vigilance please fellow V-Flyers [y]

Barry.

I wonder if they will remove all those freely available bottles of booze in the UCS bar, no point taking it off people at the gate and giving them a free selection on the plane.
