Hi all

Looking for some advice from any regular visitors or residents

Just about to book the acommodation in Vegas for our forthcoming trip (staying as part of a California flydrive - 5 nights in LV).
Have to take into account will have my two daughters with us - aged 12 & 11.

Things that are important are:
Good sized suite with separate lounge accommodation
Good pool
Hotel must be tolerant of children
Good aircon :D as we are there in August

Been to Vegas a few time before so I know the plus and minus points about locations, looking for some advice though on which may be the best out of the three I've pinned down to date esp with regard to being child friendly.

Luxor suite
Mandalay Bay suite
Venetian suite

All are in the price range (ish), Venetian is my No 1 at the moment as it seems to have the slight edge in Sq ft and location.

Anyone have any recent experience of these three hotels?. I've stayed at the Luxor before although not in a suite. A friend of mine recently came back from a stay at the Mandalay Bay and said although the pools were great finding a place poolside was a nightmare each and every day.

Or have I missed a trick and are there better options

Many thanks for any advice in advance [y]

The luxor pyramide suites are OK for couples (and I think you can book an ajoining standard room). The Tower suites give a nice living room area but they recently decorated the tower rooms and have toned down the luxor theme and I have to say they seem a tad boring now.

The Hotel @ Mandalay is an all suite hotel with great rooms and a sep living room and wet bar. Plus the bathroom is really nice with TV built in. The VH price when we booked for this coming Feb was very reasonable. Yes it's at the end of the strip but you can get the tram to Excalibur and then the monorail from MGM all the way if you haven't got a car.

Thanks for the tip on THEhotel Ade....

Prices are a little over that on the Venetian, but the reviews I've read say the place is great. Guess it'll come down the purely scientific process of flipping a coin, heads Venetian suite, tails THEhotel

Thanks once again [y]

Hi,

I've recently come back from 2 weeks in Vegas and stopped in suites in 2 hotels, thought you might like my feedback:-

2 bed hospitality suite (paid for 1 bed hosp. suite but got upgraded FOC to the 2 bed [8D]) at the Mirage - this is a fantastic suite, very large and spacious, huge living/dining area, wet bar/kitchen area, large cloakroom and two large bedrooms, each with their own bathroom, the bathroom in the main bedroom is almost as big as the bedroom, complete with jaquizzi bath. The hotel is great too, you feel very comfortable there, and I would consider it ideal for kids -with white tigers, lions and dolphins plenty to keep them amused etc.

Terazzo suite at the venetien - the hotel is supposed to be one of the top ten grandest hotels in the world and I would agree. Every area of the hotel from the casino, lobby, rooms, pools etc. has such attention to detail and is so luxurious. The terazzo suite is nice as you have your own bit of space near the venitzia pool area (may be a bit too hot for you in August though!). Whether the hotel is ideal for children though I'm not sure? I can't say we noticed many/ if any children there.

I have also stayed at the Mandalay bay on a previous visit to vegas, the hotel is great but quite far out from the main hotels on the strip - if you don't like walking (you will do a lot!) and you want to be more central, I would avoid.

I've not stopped at the Luxor but my sister has in a suite and she was a bit dissapointed as it was starting to look a bit shabby compared to the newer strip hotels. It's also a good, long walk from the main area of the strip.

Hope this has helped, you will have a great time wherever you stop as Vegas it fantastic - the kids will love it too I'm sure.

Have a great trip, I've only been back a week but I'm so jealous of you [:I]

Thanks for that Jo [y]

Venetian is still my favourite, although I will take a quick look at the Mirage before I book. My kids are 12 & 10 so they shouldn't cause many problems to the 'Vegas is for adults' brigade (not aimed at the good people on here, jeez....tripadvisor.com bugs me sometimes! [n])

Glad you had a good time

Just counting the days away myself at the moment :D

The Venetian are offering free upgrades from the standard suites to the bella (2 bed) Venezia tower suites on certain days at the moment. Via their website http://www.venetian.com ---> summer suite specials.

Jon B, I agree with you about Tripadvisor. We went for the first time to Las Vegas in April and took our children who are also 12 and 10 years old. I made the mistake of reading the tripadvisor Vegas forum before we left and the anti-children sentiments were so strong I nearly cancelled that part of our holiday. Needless to say once there we didn't encounter any anti-kids behaviour whatsoever.

By the way, we stayed in a Bellagio suite but spent an evening at the Venetian and thought it looked great for the children. We also spent 4 nights at the Ritz-Carlton in Lake Las Vegas which I can highly recommend (especially for the children).

I agree with OXmatt the Venetian is the place to stay - no complaints and a first class suite

The suites at THEHotel @ Mandalay Bay are awesome! My g/f and I stopped there on our first visit to vegas last year (part of a 16 night flydrive) and loved it. So much so that we are going back in September for 6 nights but this time will be leaving as hubby and wifey :)

If you can go THEHotel, V.Nice!

OK, I'm too late for the OP but

I'm staying here later in the year
http://www.signaturemgmgrand.com/signature.html

You get your own pool which can only accessed by signature guests but you also get full use of the MGM's excellent pool complex too.

Tower 1 is complete, Tower 2 will finish in Dec 06 and May next T3 will be complete.

This place gets good reviews on tripadvisor too :)

I'll let you all know what we thoguht when we get back (late Oct)

Good reviews here
http://las-vegas-hotels.tripadvisor.com ... evada.html

It is early days and even though there are a couple of teething problems everyone seems happy.

We know MGM very well and know this place is out the back/has it's own entrnace but that suits us fine. The price for our stay in Oct has only just dropped to $189 for most nights so I jumped on it, rates were much higher last month but as most of you know, that's generally how it works in Vegas :)

Have done a bit more research into http://www.signaturemgmgrand.com/signature.html .....it's certainly posed a bit of a headache for us! The reviews are 100% fantastic, it looks great, AND a one bedroom suite comes in only slightly more than a suite at THEhotel on the dates we're in Vegas in Oct. I may book it regardless but hold off cancelling THEhotel, purely because availability on our dates at the Signature seems to be tight, ie. yesterday no availability but today there is. Will keep both bookings running and decide later which to cancel ;)

That's fair enough, THEhotel rates are crackers (some sold out) for our dates (MB itself is even worse) so it's a no brainer for us. Infact the Signature is cheaper than a standard room in the MGM itself on most of our dates [:w] :D

Well we're all booked into Signature@MGM for 4 nights from 2nd Oct - thanks Daywalker for mentioning what appears to be one of the most fab hotels on offer! We're keeping our booking at THEhotel intact for the time being as its so easy to cancel and get deposit refunded :)

Hi there Neil/Daywalker

Just a quick note to say that we arrived at Signature this afternoon and....I can safely say it's totally fabulous :D I've taken lots of photos of our suite but can't download them 'till we return to UK as didn't pack the right lead. Anyway here are a few key points of interest:

Fantastic welcome - as we pulled up to the gated entrance we were asked for our names, the gate attendant then checked computer and confirmed (by first name) our booking. He asked us to drive straight up to the lobby where a valet person would greet us and unload/park car.

Very intimate check-in - no queues, in our suite within minutes.

Boy what a suite, difficult to put into words...it's fantastic. Can you believe it has a full blown kitchen incl. dishwasher!!. We're going to get fruit tomorrow and make smoothies each morning - yes, there's even a blender!

LCD TV's in living room, bedroom.....and bathroom. The one in the bedroom rises out of the table by the window!

Ask for a corner suite (as we did) - that way you have extra windows

Great balcony - never had an "outside" balcony in Vegas - problem is we can't venture out on to it as we're scared of heights - I'm telling you, it's high!

Access to the MGM is 5 mins along moving walkway - just got back from dinner in Michael Mina Nob Hill. Best meal ever (lobster pot pie), except perhaps for Michael Mina San Francisco.

Great pool area, not huge but just fine. If you want to go to the main MGM pool area that's fine too.

That's it for now, it's 11.35 and we're knackered after today's drive across the desert from Palm Springs.

Cheers

James (& Steve)

Thanks for that James[y] - we had almost decided on The Wynn with the MGM Signature still in the back of our minds, and with your info it is no doubt going to throw the doubt right back in there![ii].

Not booking until later this month once the flights have been released so hopefully will have chance to see some of your pics, which might help swing it one way or another.

Have a great rest of your trip
Neil:)

Thanks for taking the time to update us with the info, I'm glad to hear it's met all expectations, we're checking in on Saturday, I can't wait. :)
I'm not fussed about the small pool, we love the main MGM pool area and had planned on using that :)

Corner room request is noted, I'll be sure to ask for one ;)

Hi,
Have just booked a 2BR suite for the first weekend in November. Requested a corner suite too. Should I also request a higher floor and/or a strip view?

Any other "insider" tips on this property gratefully received.

Thanks.
