AtlanticFlyer. I fear your efforts have been in vain. You could have happily walked through security in LHR with your Mach3, and not an eyebrow raised. There is not much you can do with a mach3 razor, apart from shave yourself. On the otherhand there is no way on earth that you could have purchased nail clippers airside. I think you will find the rules internally consistant, in that respect at least.

I think it was dry whit Porche, as opposed to any leanings, in any case we don't know the aims of the people involved yet. The ochlahoma (sp?) bombing for instance wasn't what they thought it was in the end, it was just done by some nutcase.

Attitude - Certainly your name answers a lot in the way of your comments directed to me. Maybe you left out "Wrong". Anyway I will say something if I like as thats what these sites are for as with what a lot of others have done so. Maybe if more of us said and did something rather than out our heads in the sand we would not have these problems . But if I have offended anybody I am truly sorry but was just enjoying the debate and mean no disrespect to any concerned

i agree with porsche we should be free to say what we feel. At the end of the day we are all in the same situation, we all fly and are therefore put in the same situation.

Guys, stop making personal attacks. If this continues it's not doubtful that this thread will be locked.

As is often the case, you get more information from the US, take a look at http://www.cnn.com and if you have broadband view the statement by US Homeland Security Secretary Cherthoff.

He confirmed;

- plot involved multiple flights to New York, Washington and California (CNN reports Continental, United and American Airlines)
- several terrorists per plane with detonators and liquid explosives distributed among them, diguised as 'beverages, electronic devices and other items'
- casts doubt on whether all the terrorists have been rounded up
- all liquids banned on US flights but not hand baggage, in part to prevent copycats and until new screening machines are implemented
- refers to the 'plotters' in absolute terms, as in there's no doubt about it (example of how things are more definitely expressed over there)

You are free to say what you feel providing that falls within the Rules and Regulations of this site.

If you wish to conduct a religious or racial discussion there are plenty of other fora on the internet for you to use - you will not do it here!

From the VS website baggage section:

We regret that we cannot accept liability for:

Valuable/fragile items (including but not limited to money, jewellery, precious metals, computer, personal electronic devices)
Important/valuable documentation (including but not limited to business documents, passports, negotiable papers, securities, deeds)
Perishables
Security items
Medicines or medical equipment
House or car keys
Damage and/or loss of articles contained in baggage deemed to be overpacked or unsuitably packed and/or protected, already damaged and those not suitable as checked baggage i.e.carrier bags/paper boxes.

As I understand it most of this stuff has to be checked in, so who pays when your laptop/ipod/camera etc gets lost/nicked/trashed?

i would be happy for them not to allow carry on bags. everything is on board the aircraft that you will need anyway. except for the ones who sleep with there lap tops and ipods. I am a buisnessman and can make do without my laptop for a few hrs.

Bazz - I only defended myself and will not accept others having a go at me either but accept your point and agree to follow the rules - It was just I suppose the way it was heading - But maybe you could also advise the "others" who also got on their "high horse " the same - As far as I am concerned the matter is closed. Just in from BBC - "The US is deploying extra air marshals on flights between the UK and the US, after Britain said it had foiled a plot to blow up planes to the US." This now means armed marshals now on board UK planes to the USA.

Thankfully back on topic, does open up a big can of worms. If you are being prevented from carrying personal items and you can't lock your case then anything that was stolen is down to you as I don't think it would be covered in many peoples travel policies. Interesting one that [:?]

maybe the logical thing to do would be to leave the laptop at home if your on buisness then maybe the company your with will cover it

Ok makes me think for long haul I will now avoid the UK. I travel twice a year to Singapore and always went through Heathrow but with SIA but will now travel through Frankfurt or Amsterdam - Do the same policys apply now in Europe or just the UK hwere the threat came from -

Very much!!

Just read on BBC news homes in High Wycombe were evacuated.

GJ whilst I share your sentiment, it might be a little soon to be counting our chickens. The authorities claim to have the key players but are not saying they have got 'em all.

It could have so much worse - but going back to my earler question - Does anybody know if hand luggage is acceptable on flight sout of Europe to Asia?
