According to page 12 of this document, referring to the USAir merger:

For example, the merger will enable the hometown U.S. carrier to compete directly with non-U.S. carriers, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, and bmi in the Phoenix/Las Vegas - United Kingdom market.

America West plans to terminate it's current codeshare relationships with British Airways and Virgin Atlantic.

Umm... I'm presuming this could affect miles/TP earning? [:0]

According to a post about the closed relationship with BA and HP on A.net, they said that it would end when BA's summer season ends, which is in October. So if it's the same for VS as well, you may not be in luck. [:0]

Ok I just put a call into my friend at HP,she told me last week that this was not going to happen !

I'm suprised that the VS codeshare will end, seeing how close VS's relationship is to most star alliance carriers.

I guess the question is, with the seemingly continued delay of Virgin Amrerica starting up, will VS seek another US codeshare partner (CO or DL perhaps?) or operate without a US feed?

Well here's the thing..I kind of had it in the back of my mind that they would do this after my friend told me that she would soon have news that would involve the west coast and europe..but she also told me that the VS codeshare would be ongoing..she has been very accurate to date with the insider working of this deal(as she should in her postion)so im guessing those plans may have been moved up.

I'll wait for final judgment until I talk to her.

Well that's good news, I guess they currently feel that BA is more of a "threat" than BA is, because they fly to more of US/HP's destinations.

Richard: CO already is a codeshare partner. VS just recently actually, enabled you to book codeshare flights through their website.

Chuck-

no problem,I talked to my friend yesterday, she said they have dropped BA.

Part of her job is fifguring out the US air FF club,it seems they have never purged their records,so we were able to get my wife's miles credited from when she flew PSA..now have enough for one business ticket to the UK for me:D

Bull S%@#

About BA
Link here

about all the programs.

Link here

if you don't want to read it here's the new's.

BA and Hawaiian are going away..and even though it doesn't say so on the website so is NorthWest.

VS for the time being is staying, once USair starts the LAS-LGW run then im guessing we will lose Us Air mileage earning chances.

Now in case you didn't catch a couple of things there, read it again please

Dave,

Not questioning your sources - but it would appear that in practice, the user on FT has found a different policy on the ground. The link on aw.com is relevant to earning AW FlightFund miles when flying VS, but doesn't seem to specifically address the reverse situation?

It MAY be a rogue check-in agent, but it's worth keeping an eye on, none the less.

ok just fired of an email asking for a clear no bs answer.
Seeing as you can still spend flight fund miles on VS according to the HP website and the fact that the VS website makes no mention to HP being out of the program I figure it could well be a computer issue.

My friend is having a number of problems getting USair's system to do anything. For a number of years the FF program there was out sourced, now it's being taken over by HP staff and brought in house.According to my source there is something like 30 years worth of data to be compiled and put into the system, while this is being done parts of the HP system have to be taken of line..dont ask me why I dont know,so it could just be a hiccup on HP's part...

Anyways when the source get's back to me i'll let you know.

It wouldn't surprise me with the HP check-in agents, they haven't really demonstrated a core competency to me in regards to fares and frequent flyer programs. I remember last year handing over my FC card, and the agent lookign at me and stating that they don't partner with VS - so I told them to turn round and look at the sign behind them listing the partners.

Thanks,
Richard

ok,a reply from the godess of HP.

Stupid gate agents...they have no clue what is going on. The
relationship
with Virgin will remain in place...the redemption and accrual rules
will be
the same. In the future, the earn and burn rates may change slightly,
but
you will still be able to do both.

Just got a reply from my contact at HP:

No, we still have the agreement in place with Virgin.
We are exchanging files and miles with them in our Frequent Flyer system, BUT...they still need to do technical development in THEIR system in order to accept former DividendMiles(7 digit alpha-numeric accounts) numbers.

When you fly on US-HP we will send your VS FF number to Virgin for them to give you credit. Hopefully they DO!

Dave:

Possibly write a letter/email explaining what the new US Airways says on the issue to VS?

Indeed, since the VA.com website currently states that all earning and spending with AmWest is now suspended.

I know it,I just sent my contact another e-mail pointing to the website.

My contact has just come of a mini tour of some of their stations in the mid west so there is a chancethat they didn't even know about it,part of their job is over seeing the US/HP FF program, something tell's me they are not going to be real happy.
