Just to add to prieffer's point. One of the key benefits of UC was that you got a generous cabin allowance. This meant that most of the time I did not need to check luggage. That is now gone however. Still, at least the food, fulsome choice on the freedom menu, cusion/flowers and other small touches, and of course the great amenity kit justify the price, not.
Yeah, I think my laptop bag, while not huge and unwieldy, is maybe slightly "over". It's a very tight restriction to try and meet. I guess it depends on whether they have some jobsworth actually measuring everything.
Ironically, I think my dinky Samsonite rollaboard (as discussed in this thread) *does* fit the new sizing!
In other news, BAA are still requiring operators at Heathrow to reduce their flying for the next two days at least...

Yes, I will really miss this benefit now - three days in New York next week and I would normally travel light with hand baggage only, but also speed through airports as fast as is humanly possible. Even without the hand baggage restruition I wouldn't be able to take toiletries ... so methinks this option is probably gone for ever.
I think for those of us who travel frequently on business for short durations will miss out, travelling on holiday with more luggage always had a different approach for me.

I agree that some people do try to take the p*** with cabin bagagge - but in PE or UC theres more room anyway, and the whoel point of the extra space and the higher fare is to allow youito have more cabin baggage to do as Sailor has suggested and get through the airport quickly on departure and arrival.
And it doesnt matter how big or small a bag is with regard to checking its contents - a small bag could be full of small items which takes longer to check than a big bag that has say a shirt shoes and a lap top ( for Decker!)

I had guessed the same, Decker, but it REALLY p's me off when people just "accept" ridiculous (unnecessary) changes for the sake of it.
Why do we all EXPECT to take our shoes off in the US, yet nowhere else? Because it's BECOME the "norm".
Are US airports any safer for having put this measure in place? Are they hell.
Same for cabin baggage. So, a bigger bag from New York TO Heathrow is safe; while the same size item FROM London to New York is not?
B*****ks.

So answer this. Would you rather have a clear bag with the very few restricted items or would you rather have this new small piece of cabin baggage?
Why do we have to accept that this is our only choice. What is the point of changing the rules, who does it benefit, BAA so they don't have to invest in new security systems/extra staff to deal with the problem, because it certainly does not benefit me as a pax.
Im 100% with preiffer on this, just because people tell us things are right or better for us does not mean it is true.
Heading off to buy a new Prada smaller flightbag[}:)] I just needed an excuse.

Well after spending most of yesterday in an airport, i dont want to see a plastic bag again. The polish had the military in helping with the searches, and I tell you they weren't messing about! I dont see what difference it makes in the size of the luggage or if its plastic and see through as they empty it out and look at it all anyway. Granted it may take a bit longer to search but to be honest it would be worth it.
B*****ks.
Ooh err but in complete agreement. Still, until a way can be implemented to test liquids I'm still guessing there'll be that restriction.

Prob with LV is that there are too many fakes out there now, LV have a major re-branding to do because of this so Im staying away from them for the minute (not that I pay much attention to this or anything[:I]), and yes LV is def for girls;)

So, if no liquids allowed, that means me and my fellow contact lens wearers are completely stuffed.
Can't you get a couple of sets of those 24 hour disposables?
