Duty Free and MCO

Given the no liquid rule we were thinking of stocking up by pre-ordering some drink and smellies on the way out. Problem is at MCO you have to go through screening again as you mix with the departing Pax. So does anyone know if Duty Free will be confiscated or will it be allowed?

Nope - that'd be the NO LIQUIDS thing they're talking about

HOWEVER, the US are saying the following at present, depending on the airport:

Duty free items are permitted if delivered directly onto the aircraft.

I am sure I read on this website that the TSA were experimenting with ways of avoiding the annoying hand baggage re-screening on arrival from an international flight at MCO. One idea was the TSA staff forming a "sterile" corridor between the exit of the re-screening area & the train to the main terminal & letting a limited number of arriving pax through at once.

I am sure any such initiatives will have now ceased - not least because having been "securely" escorted to the train to the main terminal, there was nothing to stop you staying on it for the return journey to the airside terminal to mingle with departing pax.

I'm sure that many Orlando travellers on here will remember the days not so long ago when there was no secondary screening on arrival at MCO [:#]

Orlando's problem is that once out of secondary screening not only can you walk back to the departing Virgin Flight, you can walk to all the Delta internal flights as well.

I fully understand and appreciate the reason for the 'no passengers are allowed to take liquids onto transatlantic flights' rule but, does that also mean that there will be no duty free sales on board? Or will that be no liquid duty free sales? Either way, can't see the airlines being too happy if the situation caries on.

One would assume that you can still purchase Duty Free leaving Orlando as you don't actually see it till you're on the jetway to the aircraft. In other words in can't be tampered with ?

If that's out of the question you should be able to buy on board on the return trip ?

Just had this thought, once you've claimed your bags at Orlando could you not stuff the Duty Free items in the bags before the bags are re - checked, and claimed at the main terminal before you go through secondary screening ?

Posted elesewhere - but if you are travelling from MAN you can purchase on the way out and then collect it when you get back!!

Just flew back last saturday on VS28, you could still get duty free at MCO and on board as well without any problem.

I flew back on Friday night's VS028 and you could NOT buy any liquids at the Duty Free - even though it would be passed to you at the gate. Perhaps the rules changed by the next evening. The trolley did got down the aisle during the flight and although I was dozing[|)] I am fairly sure I was aware of someone buying some whiskey.

The mysterious walkway through the departure lounge for arrivals was in place when we went out and on the return - looks very awkward and as mentioned anyone can back track on the monorail if they are so inclined.

I think the OP is referring to the second lot of screening on arrival at MCO. I heard they had stopped it. It was NOT in operation in earlier August. so I cant see yo having a problem. Unless they have changed things drastically. When do you travel I can check for you 23rd.
