Hope you get back to VS, and maybe one day get the chance to involved in training other crew members so you can share your experiences and understanding of what Virgin Atlantic crew are about and standards of service.

Hey there. I hope you do come back to Virgin. I work as junior cabin crew and I have to say that it doesn't matter how much effort I put into my job, how friendly and attentive I am to passengers in economy, there will always be lazy crew at Virgin and I don't believe that you as an individual can change that.
Virgin is in the process of trying to make crew aware of the importance of the magic touches that make an airline special, but I think that it's gonna take a long time. There are too many crew obsessed with kissing butt to get promotions, but when they aren't being assessed, they can be lazy.
I think that the standards for some crew are so slack and need to be seriously tightened up. It needs to be way stricter. Crew are too concerned with how much crew rest they are going to get on a 7 hour flight and it makes me so ashamed to see it happening.
Economy and premium economy passengers need a much more professional, attentive service for their money and the people in head office need to take a look at the skytrax website.

just read some of the complaints on skytrax and a few of the complaints were about the cabin crew not being around after the service on the night flights. I must agree on this they seem to all disappear does anyone know where they go and if they are all allowed to vanish

About Crew rest it depend's on the flight and if the flight is
full etc .But being a Cabin Crew Member at virgin the Safety of the passenger's always comes first . PLS, PLS I can tell you 100% that safety standards at Virgin is very high so so high , And I know the saftey video is very light hearted . But this is just to make sure passenger's get the message and the kid's watch it and learn at the same time and it gives you the parent's a chance to also gather your thought's etc .And my partner works for a Design Company and the upper class suit and safety video has won many award's . But he's work collegues say that virgin has a great product , In his word's it's like a porche being driven by 5 year old's (Not the pilot's) .
And that's the problem the service needs to be improved and if virgin made there service standard's as high as there safety standard's .It would be a 5 star Airline , And at Virgin I have worked with very professional staff .But It also depend's on the FSM on the flight and they need to address this issue , As a few of them think they can rule with an iron FIST and at BA this does not happen much, As there is a wide mixture of crew ages . I heard there is older crew joining Virgin , Most of them ex-British Airway's . I think all the crew should be trained on the upper class service and it should be all one rank "Cabin Crew" , except Purser and FSM .But hey let's see what happen's [:w] , But once again there are great staff out there , But there are a few who take the piss !!

Some crew just don't realise why they are on-board, to serve passengers! I think that a few think of Virgin Atlantic as their own private jet taking them and their companions to here and there. Yes, the crew are on-board primarily for the safety of passengers, but when nothing is going wrong, the crew should be out there giving the passengers what they've paid for. Only then will Virgin Atlantic be a 5 star airline.
I also think that the grooming of many of the crew should be looked at. You see the Singapore Airlines crew getting off their flights looking immaculate, yet with their shirts and their hair falling out of place, the Virgin crew often look like a pack of haggard witches.

Don't get me wrong, It's not everyone all of the time, but I do see it on almost every flight.
I love my company and wouldn't want to work for anyone else at this point in my life, but I think that there are too many crew that are letting the side down. As crew, we can't change the seat pitch that pax get, we can't determine wher we fly or what meals are provided, but we do have the ability to leave passengers thinking that this is the best airline that they have ever flown with. More effort is needed to achieve this. When half of the crew are in the crew rest area sleeping for several hours on an already short flight to JFK, they aren't in cabin where they should be providing an excellent service.

Me neither. My press room is in the Queens Building near the crew check-in at LHR so I see many of them arriving and departing (a visual feast, I might add!!) and they seem pretty OK to me.
Is there enough being done in the training to teach students the importance of going that one step further for better customer service?

Perhaps we were lucky but I'd find it difficult to fault the Premium Economy and Economy service on our recent St Lucia trip. Courteous, professional and attentive seemed to be the themes of the day. It can be done !

Nor have I. On every flight I've been on there is quite a bit of tidying up, arranging hair and applying warpaint before landing.

Customer service needs to be 100% for 100% of the time. If not, there is more than enough choice to keep swapping. Having worked in CS enviroment, Virgin always comes very high in surveys for customer perception. I could go on about it CS principles, but it's a Sunday afternoon and I don't want you snoozing [:D
