As far as I know, and ISTBC, If you want an upgrade then you would have to have a ticket that is upgradable, and as VH is N or V fare, this is not the case, so you would have to pay the diff to an upgradable fare then pay the difference to the upgrade, I guess the best thing to do is to try and upgrade driect with VH before you go, as with the 10%FC discount the upgrade rates are fairly good.

I could be totally wrong, but hopefully that is correct.

I'm sure there are threads but:

1. They do offer them sometimes. At LGW there's a big banner behind the check in desks saying "Ask About Upgrades" (I paraphrase)

2. I have also seen smaller notices dotted around if there's a special offer

3. One catch *may be* the class of ticket you start with. I know you can't do mileage upgrade with an "N" ticket at check in. I'm not sure what the position is with cash offers. I know that when I upgraded before travelling on a VH booked ticket I lost certain "flight discounts" - I assume I had been booked on, and invoiced for, a "N" class ticket that needed changing to "Y" to facilitate the upgrade.

Hi Motherger,

You will be able to pay to upgrade once at check-in regardless of which fare bucket you are booked into - Subject to seats being availableof course!! Y to PE is normally around the £200-£250 mark for Caribbean and East coast routes. Hope this helps.....

Good luck!!!!! :D

PE to the carribean is always pretty busy in my experience.
Chances of upgrade at check-in are less than favourable.

Best secure it before you get to the airport.

If you do decide to go for it and you are on a 747 (I think
most are) make sure you bag a seat upstairs.

It mentions in the VH brochure(s) that you can upgrade "one-way" from £249 for Y to PE, and £979 for Y to UC......not sure if you culd get a better deal at the airport though.

My wife and I will be travelling home from MBJ VS066 20/21 Sept, our return leg is a V class ticket booked through VH. We have been upgraded as a good will gesture on a Space Available basis. Having checked availablilty for out outbound to MCO VS075 and VS066 things are looking good, (all 7`s)

At check in for our fligth to MIA in March this year they were offering an upgrade to UC from PE for about £650 - and we could have taken this with no extar charge even though we were travelling on an H ticket with Virgin Holidays. They were also offering upgrades from Y to PE too but did not catch the price - Ive seen posts on here where I think this was around £250.

I think if you are going to use VH and you know what class you want then the deals in the brochure are usually about on a par with those you perhaps get offrered at the airport - and of course, there's no guarantee that the airport will have upgrades avaialable.

As ever with an upgrade, and this has been said on this site many times - the only way to guarantee and travel in a particular class is to pay for it when you book.[y]
