Hi guys

Can anyone confirm that we are now allowed to take books onboard that we have purchased prior to arriving at the airport. I am flying to the US in the morning and just wanted to make sure as one of the books that I have took me a long time to source.

Thanks

Yes. Providing they fit into your ONE piece of 45cmx35cmx16cm cabin baggage, and they're not caked in cosmetics or liquid, they're fine.

I flew LHR-LAX yesterday and was allowed to take my own books, iPod and noise canceling headphones. I also saw a sign in one of the duty free shops that said that Virgin USA bound pax were even allowed to purchase cosmetics to be delivered at boarding as long as purchases were made at least 90 minutes prior to scheduled departure. I would have bought some hand cream and lip balm but due to the security queue we didn't make it through to that area in time to do so.

Add my thanks to that - details have been thin on the ground, to say the least. [:#]

Can doubly confirm that books, laptop, phone, mp3 player are allowed in handluggage. No second check was visible to me as I boarded the flight. However, I have been singled out for 'special' secondary checks prior to my connecting flight.

Also, the written material states that lip balm is ok, the lip balm that I had to beg for on board (as it is no longer part of the amenity pack) was removed.

I'm often singled out for secondary checking - puzzling, but true! If they do it on profiling, then I presume I don't fit in with that (white female, middle-aged, travelling with spouse and no kids!) - or maybe it's just search one, miss one.....[:#]
