I agree with Maz.

For the most part I fly PE, so when you have the opportunity to fly UC its a big deal!

VS has built this image over years, and to most people out there VS is still the leader when it comes to service and class...... I am having my doubts though, reading a lot of the feedback lately.

Reads like a summary of this whole thread really. Wonder if this will start to make VS realise what a big mistake they are making. Again I fear not.

A very interesting article. Nothing new to anything discussed in this forum but very good to get our gripes exposure in a wider arena.

Nice mention of V-Flyer too :D Maybe VS will now start listening to us (okay, maybe not) [:p].

Wishful thinking!

Hmmm, isn't there an obvious answer to this? I'm a non-UC pax (unless my numbers come up!) but wouldn't it be possible to have a conversation at boarding, something along the lines of:

Hello Sir/Madam, may I take your coat? Would you like something to drink? Would you like an ammienties kit?

Those who want one get one, those who never use them wouldn't just take it with them instead of leaving it on the plane. Perhaps a card left with the inflight magazines and safety cards (assuming UC pax have these things, and they haven't been engraved into gold and inlayed in the side of the suite) with a list of items available so if someone just needs a pen, then all they get is a pen.

If I was paying for a UC flight, then I'd want a nice pouch, a selection of nice smelly things and a nice treat or two. Something that would make me go 'Ooooh' and tell my friends about. However, if I was making flights regularly in UC, I know I'd have what I needed, the kit wouldn't hold any more intriegue, and I'd only need one or two items if I'd forgotten to take mine.

I wish I flew UC now...

I think as mentioned before there should be the option of if you want a kit or not. As stated above if a "seasoned" traveller in UC will only request what he/she needs on maybe a little menu and the once off flyers in UC will get the full "monty" kit. Does anybody think this could work?

It sounds like it would work, and is the obvious way of doing it. I don't think many people would take offence at the IFBT coming around with the existing kits and saying "Would you like an amenity kit?" as mentioned previously, or in fact being given a choice between the full amenity kit and a cut down one with essentials only. Then the passenger has decided what they'd like / need from the kit.

However it's clear that what the customer wants / needs was not the driver behind the change, as the passenger has no choice in the matter. It's driven by cost savings only, not by environmental or waste issues. The passenger is giving the choice of like it or lump it ( or lump it but be hacked off by it and resolve to fly another airline next time )

Thanks,

David.

Okay, two ideas...

1) Re-instate full amenity kits, which are offered around (and are sealed). Those which aren't used are taken back into stock for reuse. Couple this with an Atlas drawer of miscellaneous individual odds and sods - these are offered almost immediately behind the amenity kits, and are good for the person who doesn't want/need a full kit.

2) Re-package the Snooze "essentials" - socks, shades, earplugs, pen, toothbrush and toothpaste, into a better quality package, and these are laid out on all seats before boarding. Before departure, do a run with "extras", which are packaged nicely - so a little zipper bag of moisturisers, tissues, etc.

Just something to add to the mix. I was speakingto a senior Lufthansa crew member andshe was telling me that all their amenity kits are provided by other companies ie clarins and she is doubtful Lufthansa pay for them as it gives the products included wider coverage.

well thats really up TO the the Virgin people to try get "product placement" on board. ok it still leaves Virgin with the waste factor but takes away the expense of supplying same. I am sure of course they could get the company to pay in some way for the fact they have their product handed out on their aircraft

I LOVE this quote from FT

(Had me laughing at 6:30am, which is quite an achievement ;))

'Maybe when we pay for these airfares we should hand over a cheque for half the fare and then a card saying' the rest will be forwared on request'

I do agree with a quote from the article referenced in this thread that a hygenic aircraft should be a right not a luxury.

I've now revised my opinion of the new packs - they save VS £1M and if this money gets spent elsewhere, this is fine. If it doesn't, I think that this is v greedy from an airline that made £40M in profit last year.
However, I don't see how the airline expects pax to keep flying with them if the standard of the product is constantly eroded and no reduction in price is made to go with this.[:(!]

Remembering recent posts ... is 25 pages a new record, or is that held by Good Night Fright and the VS Amex???

Golly, if it is what a tizzy we get into?

Wonder how much the sick bags cost? Sure no-one uses them so won't be missed.....

You say that, xenole, but there were a distinct lack of them loaded into J on BMI's flight to Vegas on Thursday. One poor girl threw up on landing, and the crew had to run back to their seats while we were literally 100ft off the ground to get back to their seats after scrambling around to find one.

Poor girl, poor crew.

(and yes, before anyone asks, I know EXACTLY what 100ft off the ground looks like - I'm at that height quite often ;))

Does anybody have a picture of this kit? I would love to see it - also maybe we should try get pics of other kits to compare and see if VS have any comments

Xenole - how wrong you can be, a recent survey showed that sick bags are the best received freebie on a flight, Im not joking, full story here

Yes Neil, but the story is from The Sun[ii]. Their fashion page just the other day was saying how important a designer pair of shoes is, and that sandals are the new Nike[:?]. You can't believe everything you read you know, as a certain person who believes I am a lion tamer will tell you:D

My oldest son is always sick when we fly and the sick bags are nearly non existant these days. My wife nornally goes in search of some when we board the aircraft.

Very funny Jeremy, not! Im purely making people aware of the information, one doesn't read The Sun. And Nike, really I didn't say that as Im not 14 anymore, the age where Nike is "cool".

Though their transparency doesn't do much to settle the stomachs of the close travelling companions of the air sick, the beach bag style of Y amenity kit provides a useful substitute for the sick bag.

Ulp..excuse me...[:$]
