I thought all reward flights had to be booked at least 3 days in advance (although i stand to be corrected) but today when i log in to my FC account and select 'flights for miles' i can select a flight leaving today in upper and i get as far as entering my CC details.

I don't actually want to travel today but is this normal?

Yup. Extra seats often get released 7 days before the flight. As the flight gets nearer, and seats remain unsold, extra buckets (including reward flights) get issued.

It's possible to book one for today - as long as you can physically make the flight, it's yours [y]

I'm treating mum and dad to come to disney with us in october but there was no upper avail although their are three seats avail. Assuming they don't go do you think it's worth calling a week before or just waiting until we twillight checkin and pay with the miles then? We've never done this before so are a bit unfamilliar. Many thanks for you help if anyone has previous experience.

Worth a phone call with in the 7 days, although with just 3 seats the odds are not good. If you are still unsucessful don't give up hope though. At the airport 'all bets are off' and a last minute cancelation for example may save the day.
