Not VS but many other carriers, usually to reach whats needed for an award. I often buy points from Amex to get VS awards, these purchases do not qualify for points though.

I bought 10,000 miles to get up to the 100,000 required to get MrsPVG a UC seat on our flight to Seoul via Shanghai. And sadly the company didn't get me a full J ticket so I couldn't get a companion ticket for a much reduced price.[:(]
I consider miles earn't through normal expenditure and travel to be "free", so the 180 (ish) quid to get the extra miles, and then the taxes to get a seat next to my three and a half grand seat in UC, was well worth it!

Both of my kids have 12000 points each so I am looking to buy them 3000 each and they can get a PE companion seat using both of their miles. How long does it take for the points to be added? I need to book in a couple of weeks.

My miles were added pretty much instantly after buying them, and then spent pretty much instantly after that[:(]

I bought 1000 miles at the weekend, after I was only that amount short of booking Upper for the very first time!

They showed up immediately, as I had to call the Flying Club straight back as soon as I'd bought them and they were already there:D

I bought 1k last week to get my mileage balance to 50k with a view of getting a 1way UC reward. Turns out I didn't need it, but buying the miles was a nice easy process...

Cheers
