For those of you who miss the news tape at the beginning of the flight....

In association with Sky News, we are launching a news service which will be updated hourly. This will be available on all v:port aircraft.

Good news, as long as it is an option to view and we aren't made to sit through it like the old one at the start up of V-Port[V]

Does that mean we will have to watch the news at the beginning of the flight or is it a channel option?

Is that updated in-flight or do you mean that a/c will be updated hourly while on the ground pre-departure??? Thanks for the info Jetstreamer...:D

Thanks, Jetstreamer:D

I don't mind watching the news service but I know many others don't like having to sit through it and I think it is better if people have choice:)

This news service is optional. It will be one of the options you can select from the v:port menu. There will be hourly updates during the flight.

Now that IS interesting. If the planes are going to receive hourly news updates inflight, how long before they start to receive other instant media ... live sport for example?

Thats a good point Nick, I always seem to pick a major sporting event for my day of travel and end up missing it, surely the technology is available to have "live" tv/sports etc shown on a/c (why not just ut a sky dish on the back[:I]), I guess its just a matter of cost.

As I am reading this the news is updated hourly, not streamed live. I would think the live tv scenario is a little different.
I would expect that eventually the ability will exist to watch your own tv channels (that you recieve where you live) in real time - so you'll be able to keep up with Eastenders or Emmerdale.

Thanks Jetstreamer, FM can't you watch live TV on some internal US flights? I am sure I saw onthe ews aboiut a aircraft that had to make an emergency landing all the pax were watching it onboard til someone made the decision to turn the IFE off (Maybe Last September or The previous March?)

Funnily enough my partner mentioned it to me on our recent trip as something she missed as it marked the start of the trip for her...for me it's a full english breakfast somewhere...

I think you are referring to the JetBlue incident last year. Jet Blue do indeed have live TV feeds on their a/c, others too I believe. There is certainly the technology to do this. I think the issue on International flights is licensing/rights issues. I mean, none of us has Sky TV abroad, do we? [:I] But cost will be an issue too. IMO though, there is plenty to keep me entertained with the normal IFE fayre [^]

Another innovation to add to the "not included you don't get it" list for MAN and LGW pax.[}:)]

Easy, well ok maybe not but I am sure it should be, I like this idea so think VS should go and sort it, I am sure if they ring Sky they will sort it for them[}:)]

Live TV would be great, although I wouldn't like to have no other entertainment - you know, there's nothing to watch etc...;)
