Unfortunately it looks very likely that I'm going to have to order a 'special' meal for my next trip. Has anyone experience of having a special meal as opposed to the UC meal? Can I have honest opinions please, am I likely to be disappointed?

Thanks

I'm a vegan, I have travelled in UC three times and as far as I know the meals were Y ones served on UC plates etc.
Make sure you book the meal at least 48 hours before travel and then ring the day before to check.
And the double check at checkin (bit of a mouthful!).

Interestingly we've had disagreements between crew and pax on this on more than one occasion. I've flown with a colleague in UC who was definitely served a Kosher Y meal in UC but one or two crew members are adamant that this does not happen.

I have to have gluten free but I'm thinking about just chancing a normal UC meal because I'm pretty confident there will be something I can eat. I'm just not too keen on getting a standard gluten free meal and being disappointed.

firsttimer, what route are you flying?

You should be able to find out on here what options are being served currently in Upper on that route, which should help narrow it down for you.

Thanks,
Sarah

If you ring FC they can ring through and check what options on the Freedom menu would suit you, ingredients-wise.

I wouldn't risk it mate. My g/f also needs gluten free food and on our last flight with VS they sucked big time! Salmon and rice (ok) with oat biscuits (NO). Then the next meal was ignored as they said they don't provide special 2nd meals whereas everyone else gets a pannini. Instead they gave her an apple from UC! Then for the snack they gave her a Dairy Milk Wafer (NO!).

Just thank god she took her own food with her the as VS service for this was appalling!

Hi.

When travelling Upper Class you will be served a standard special meal on the upper class crockery/trayb set up.

Foe example, kids meals are the same regardless of class of travel.

Thanks

No, you get a different selection of vegatables with your kid in UC[:#][B)]

We just flew UC to MCO with our 5 yr old twins (TR to follow when I can cut it down a bit from its current novel like proportions )

They were given a tray with all sorts of chocolate bars, sweets, cheese dippers, fruit etc. They were so full they could not eat the 'hot' economy childrens meal when it later arrived.

Thanks everyone for your replies, I decided not to chance it and have booked the gluten free meal.

You will regret saying that[:p]

Having my first UC experience on the weekend of the security alert certainly gave me enough scope.
