What exactly happens on an aircraft when the pilot (or anyone else on the flight deck) needs to go to the toilet? Do they have their own little cubicle or do they have to open the flight deck deck and use a toilet in the main cabin(s)?
Was just thinking that after Sept 11th, surely opening the door could prove risky........

Well as long as they don't use UC toilets... ;). They come out and use the toilets. They can establish if there are terrorists standing outside the door before they exit...

There are specific security procedures that were put in place by some carriers post-9/11. Best to leave it there, however, I'm certain you'd agree.

Has no one ever noticed the left leg of the flight deck crew when they get off the flight. It generally swells to about one and a half times its original size.
This is due to the leg bag's they wear so they dont have to leave the flight deck for the toilet.:D

Two words....

Milk Bottles.

If it worked for Howard Hughes then who are we to disagree. Of course our female cockpit crew may have to make alternative arrangments[:I].

Probably explains why they never get stopped at customs.

As a little aside... has anyone on here came across the VS 744 Captain of the same name? He took us to NAS last year!

Now this is an easy one have you ever noticed the cut out on the flight deck seats?? It goes in to a funnel and feeds to the windscreen washers. Male pilots are banned from this practice because they donÕt put the seat back down after they finished, this lead to a very bumpy landing in Holland once when the female Co-pilot actually fell through the seat on touchdown due to the previous male pilot not putting it back correctly.
The landing was captured on film please see this link
