Any ideas anyone?

I noticed that VS2 last night (July 7) was scheduled to leave at 21.45 and didn't actually leave EWR until 00.15. I'm assuming this was due to the late departure (almost 3 and a half hours late) out of LHR.

webdes - as mentioned in many threads on here, you will not find out which aircraft you are on until you are sat in your seat as it is never published beforehand, so guess you will have o just wait and see!

I know they don't publish it. My thought was that perhaps someone in LHR would know what aircraft is leaving LHR in 30 minutes as VS1. As this is obviously the same aircraft operating VS2 out of EWR. Hense why my original thread addressed anyone in VS ops- as we do have VS people that frequent the forum.

People from Virgin Ops are not allowed to post this information on a public forum.

At the end of the day it will be a 747 with V-port

Not really. When I flew VS001 a couple years ago it was an A346.

The VS001/002 IS operated using a 744 according to the schedules published on the internal website. All of the LHR 747s are exactly the same to the passengers.

It can't be guaranteed to be a 747. Our own records show a 11% chance of it not being one.

^NOTHING is guaranteed in the airline industry!!

Well there is a 99.9% chance of it being a LHR 744 just like the VS007, VS019 and VS045!!

Sorry, but I'm afraid not. I'm not sure why you keep insisting it. Here are the exact percentages from V-Flyer:
VS001:
747-400 (LHR Suite) 89%
A340-600 (Config 1) 7%
A340-300 (Suite) 4%

VS002:
A340-300 1%
747-400 (LHR Suite) 73%
A340-600 (Config 1) 22%
747-400 (LGW/MAN Suite) 1%
A340-600 (Config 2) 2%

Okay, I'm with the staff on this one...

It's planned on a LHR-config 747-400. Chances of it being swapped are pretty minimal - things probably have to go quite badly wrong (like an aircraft to go badly tech, or get stuck in the US) for a swap to happen.

I'm sure the decision to swap it to a different aircraft type isn't a decision VS ops take lightly, as it will mean that the flight will need it's flight deck recrewing as a minimum, and there's the issue with the return sector - the return crew are already at the downline station, so a suitable return flight crew would have to be dead-headed in, somehow.

Chances are cabin crew numbers will need adjusting as well, as will the galley orders - the galley config differs between aircraft type, and even within the subfleets to some extent - therefore the caterer has to build the galley carts up dependant on the planned aircraft.

(So, for example, FAB/HOT/BIG have a fridge/freezer in their J galley, while WOW/ROC don't, and have space for more Atlas cabs instead - and no, I dont' work for VS. I'm just an observant geek with a bit of a photographic memory.)

Basically, it's a lot of hard work, and possibly a nightmare!

There's only 5 744s based at LHR now, and they are all the same from a passenger PoV - v:port, suites (with removeable dividers in the B-zone), "plastic horror" PE seats.

Cheers,
Mike

I'm sorry guys- I didn't mean to start an argument. Last time I flew VS, I posted a thread like this and someone happened to be in LHR, looked out the window, and posted which aircraft was sitting at the gate bound for EWR. That was what I was hoping for- not a huge discussion on the percentages- so I appologize for that.

On a side note- it didn't even dawn on me that with the departure of XLG to LGW- all LHR aircraft are V|Port aircraft. So unless, as Mike said, an aircraft goes badly tech, we "should" always see V|Port on this route now--although as Lipstick said, most of us know from experience, and I can backup working in the airline industry- nothing is ever a gurantee.

It must be like London Luton, London Stanstead, Nottingham/Derby East Midlands, Glasgow Prestwick or any of the host of destinations Ryanair fly to pretending to be major cities[8D]
