Laptop Power

What with this insane ban on all Apple / Dell laptops in flight EXCEPT if you remove the battery and use the in seat power, does anyone know if VS will lend you a lead for a PE seat which works with the Apple MacBooks MagSage connector?

If not how much and where can you get them from?

They lend leads in Upper, but I've not known them do it for PE passengers.

Found one on eBay for £30 but can't see if it works with the MacBook. Only says ibook, PB and ipod but they are dif connectors.

If you want a cheaper version of the power adapter preiffer has posted the link to [above], there is a DC only version available for about £45 (from the likes of misco.co.uk).

I got this variant as I only needed an adapter for in-plane & in-car use. Kensington will also send you a free power adapter tip to add to the ones that come with the power adapter - it came with tips for both of my laptops so I used the free tip offer to get one for my iPod.

I have been looking into this as well, as I have a MacBook Pro. Last time I flew I had the older PowerBook G4. The new laptops have the MagSafe port - and no-one that I can find does an adaptor for this to an Empower port. Apple has a Patent-Pending on the MagSafe, so probably aren't sharing the design [:(]. The best I could find is the Kensington power inverter here. This is a converter, so you need to plug your normal power pack with the magsafe into this. The Kensington device however is US only, so will have a US plug socket on it, which means you need the US plug for your Apple power pack. I have this anyway, as I work in the US, but others may need to buy it. There are also conflicting reports as to whether it actually works with the MacBook Pro. I am sure there are similar power inverters from people other than Kensington.

I doubt that VS have the power tips for MBP. Incidentally, if you are in a PE seat that has the Empower socket, apparently they should offer you the tips.

I have the 120w one, it's much smaller and very nifty. Yes, they do have tips compatible for Macbooks but you'll probably have to order this separately.

Mind you - I flew to New York on Tuesday and back from Boston last night, and no announcements banning Dells and Macs were made. I used my Dell extensively on the way out with no comment. So maybe this sillyism is quietly being shelved?

That would be good. Was kinda hoping this would be the case as it is a very silly rule!
