Hi, I'm lookin at a short-notice trip to NY, and wondered which typically (and yes I appreciate it varies)are the quietest/busiest flights on VAA to NY. I'm probably travelling out on a Tues/Wed and back on a Sunday in a couple of weeks time.

Thanks.

Usually the quietest flight from JKF-LHR is the last late flight, abt 10pm or just after, also the flight abt 9pm is usually quiet (sorry can't remember the numbers and as VA.com is down can't check). Not too sure on the outbound, imagine the first flight of the day is usually fairly busy but then guess its pretty even. With so many flights to NYC I don't think the flights are ever really really busy like say the SFO flight which is only daily so less choice(ISTBC on all this btw)

Travelled on VS009 out and VS010 back a few times in Y. Never seemed jammed on any of the trips.

009 is a nice time to arrive (early evening) and 010 is a late flight back so you get extra hours in NYC on the day of departure.

Both these are in and out of JFK, some prefer Newark but I've never tried that airport so can't comment

I've found my NY flights to be a mixed bag, though I've not travelled since they changed the times of the returns or put the extra EWR trip in.

Which class will you be flying in? I guess a call to the reservations team may give an indication of which flights are least crowded, especially if you ask for the cheapest seats on your travel dates.

I don't think there's much difference, actually I've never been on an empty flight - most have been pretty busy really. The only one which did seem pretty quiet was the 018 I took once. Otherwise, the others (I think I've been on all flights other than the new one) have all been fairly busy.)
Obviously, my favourite flight is the early morning from LHR which was the 045 and is now the 003 [V] (AFAIK)

If you're going for a relatively short time then go for the early morning - it gives you an extra half-day in NY:D

Usually the afternoon flight from LHR to EWR is fairly quiet. The morning flight on the opposite way however is usually blocked full. The thing about JFK is the number of flights. As there are more there's a higher chance of some being empty.

Atty gives sound advice here...I would also add that having been on the VS19 and VS20 (SFO flights, to/from) nearly a dozen times, the upper deck (PE and UC) is ALWAYS quieter -- except for the one trip when two MORONS decided to stand in the door between PE and UCS and drone on for hours about their stupid corporate processes and mind-numbing quality control procedures...oh god, i almost had a Six Sigma meltdown...try to sit far from the bar, IFBT seat and galleys/WCs, as the pax traffic around them can be loud.

Happy flying!

GJ

6 Sigma, GJ you have made the day turn from hell to sheer pleasure. Gawd isn't it drivel!

As for flights, I've always found anything from JFK after p.m. is full whereas the day flight is the best (sorry Neil). Go early not late vizbiz.

Remember these people are WARRIORS. They get a black belt. When I learned this my jaw dropped almost as far as when I learned that our company has a "War Room" and our intranet site features some beardy pretending to be Terminator destroying a competitor. I think I'll go and live in France.

Thats the problem with questions like these, I guess it varies so much and there is no right or wrong answer, all my JFK-LHR flights have been on the old VS46 that left at 21:30ish and they were quiet, with the later flight very quiet according to the staff, but obviously your experience is different. Guess its all to do with time of year, specific days etc.
