Virgin Holidays Hotel only

Does anyone know if you can book online for a Hotel only, and then phone up and apply the 10% Flying club discount.

I ask because if I go through quidco online I get an extra 3% off and was wondering if this id possible?

They may not allow two different discounts, as often the T&Cs state you can only apply one. I've booked online for accom only, and then emailled/phoned in asking for the discount and had it applied, so yes, you can get the FC discount on hotels only bookings.

When I spoke to someone a couple of weeks ago at VH, they confirmed 10% discount will be applied if you contact them.

Gavin - the 10% discount is not available for online bookings, to get it you need to ring them up and book at which point the discount will be give. It is also not allowed to be combined with any other discounts. The full T&C's are here

Gavin, Just to clarify a little. You cannot make a booking online which shows your FC discount straight up - However, you can make the booking online and then phone up and get your 10% added by a res agent.

That will work perfectly well.

Rob are you sure? the t&c's say "The 10% discount does not apply to online bookings"! Also if you book online you receive the 5% online booking discount so would only get another 5% discount not another 10% as the FC discount replaces the online booking discount.

The VH booking engine doesn't have the facility to recognise FVC members. VH doesn't want to force all members to book by telephone, they will allow online bookings.
Upon calling either the FVC or reservations - VH will take off the online discount of 5% and replace it with the FV discount of 10%.

I think the T+C's state that you don't qualify for both discounts.

VH wouldn't be very prudent denying it's most loyal customers the use of the easiest way to make a reservation. [y]

Rob - Gavin's question asked about thr 10% discount VS FC discount, not VH FVC discount, so my replies have been based on the t&c from the VS website partner details.

Apologies - I didn't phrase that last reply very well.

VH administer the FVC and VS FC discounts in the same manner. Both can be added after an online booking has been made. I checked this with VH before I made my first booking with them, the discount was added later at my request without any problems. I have since made 2nd and 3rd VH booking which were all made online - The discount again added over the telephone once the booking was confirmed.

I now have the FVC discount available from VH aswell - However, it's no different to the FC offering which I was using before I qualified for their frequent status.

Given them a call they will amend your discount up to 10%.....

I think we're all ending up at the same point which is that the maximum discount you will get from booking with VH is 10%.

The interesting point in Gav's post is whether VH will trap the fact that the booking is via Quidco referring him and will effectively say "well, you've got an x% discount already". Reading the Quidco website suggests that this isn't the case as Quidco don't seem to be a mechanism for getting price discounts from the suppliers but rather a mechanism for passing on some of the referral fees paid to Quidco by the suppliers.

It should work something like

a. Gav books VH hotel for £1,000 on VH website using Quidco portal
b. Assuming FC / FVC status Gav rings VH and gets £100 off the booking and pays VH £900 for his hotel
c. VH pays Quidco £100 for the referral
d. Quidco pays Gav £30
e. Gav ends up with a £1,000 holiday for £870 due to the combined discount and cashback.

As always I've made the figures up and ISTBC on the principle.

This is basically what I am trying to do, Normally what happens with quidco is that the average person in the company you are getting cashback through will not have heard of quidco nor of the discount, my theory is that I will get the discount because the cashback is not passed directly to me but through an affliate company first, rather like clicking on a VH banner on some site- they get some dosh I get my discount.

If I can Add the 10% Flying club disc on later, I think I will have a go at booking a room with them for NYC in feb and see what heppens with quidco.

The t&c's do state that the 10% cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer, but surely they must mean VH or Virgin group offers, can they control what an outside company offers?

I know of a couple of people who have done this and had the 10% discount applied after the booking with no problems.

The extra 3% is a casback offer and it is payable to you within a few months either by paypal or bacs. There is also a £5 admin charge.

Not something I have done personally though.

I use quidco all the time and have made a fair bit of cash just from buying things I would have bought anyway. I got £100 back for my car insurance this month which made my policy the lowest price I have ever paid, despite loosing my no claims this year

Remember that Quidco are not offering any *discount* on the VH holiday. They are sharing some of the cash they receive from VH for being a referring site.

VH's "in conjunction with any other offer" is, I guess, to cover the situation where they may be doing a newspaper or other promo (e.g. the bank holiday promo) that may itself be offering a 10% (or whatever) discount.

That is most interesting, might have to have a look at this Quidco, never heard of them before but from what has been said this looks a neat idea.

I am hoping to do this through another cash back site, so was interested in this thread.

I havent yet- still waiting on holiday dates in work before I can make a booking.

Anyone else having trouble trying to book a room only? Each time I try to do so, the site asks me to input flight dates - but I only need accommation! Am I missing something obvious here????
