We are flying PE to MCO from LGW, with an infant and a three year old, we have requested the Bassinet / Bulkhead seats for the infant,

Can anybody answer this?

Are Bassinets fitted upstairs and are infants allowed upstairs

Thanks

Welcome to the forum.

Save for the issue of the availability of the seat type, there's nothing to stop you taking an infant upstairs.

Although it does tend to be thought of as a quiet area compared to downstairs. You may get a few looks from other pax, particularly if a certain cat is on board.

Just in terms of the number of bulkhead seats available I'd have thought the balance of probability is that you'll end up downstairs; on the LGW fleet there are 8 bulkhead seats downstair (2-4-2) but only 4 upstairs (2-2).

As others have mentioned there is nothing to stop you going upstairs, although as Jeremy said it may not be looked on to favourably by the other pax, but I guess that is tough luck against them. Obviously there is no certainty that you will get your bulkhead seat (as has been discussed before) but if you do, as Paul has mentioned you have a larger chance of getting a downstairs PE bulkhead seat, so if you want to be upstairs check in early.

Isn't there some requirement to put people in the emergency exit seats that could open the door should there be an issue?

Confusing exit and bulkhead, or different question? Bulkhead seats are those that face a wall, like at the front of Y and W class on most flights. Exit seats are next to doors, and yes, do require you to be 16+ and able-bodied etc. etc. Sorry if I got you wrong.

Not all bulkhead seats have basinette provision - I think there are two downstairs - 81 AC/HK) and the port side upstairs (70AC).

Personally I would go upstairs if you can. Upstairs on an MCO flight is not the same as a businessy trip to New York and there is a lot more tolerance - indeed on trips where we have used a basinette upstairs pax keep finding an excuse to stop by.

The disadvantage with the downstairs is that with such a small cabin and Y just behind you tend to get a lot of noise from kids in the mini-Y cabin.

Have a good trip.

Thanks all your answers, as we donÕt live far from Gatwick I think we will go for the ÒTwilight Check InÓ to try and get seated upstairs

A few follow up questions I know up stairs there is a ÒWardrobeÓ where the larger carry on bags are stored, From a Virgin and the current Security point of view are we allowed to take on board an Infants Baby seat, i.e. the smaller ones with a handle, or would this have to be checked in.

Is there a similar wardrobe on the lower deck.

If it has to be checked in can it is checked in at the gate similar to a buggy, i.e. on our last day we will checking at Downtown Disney, but need the seat to get back to the airport,

Trust the above is clear, and once again thanks for your help.

Losely related to the topic...

I flew out to BOM in UC a couple of days ago. It was a last minute flight change so no time to choose a seat on-line and I got stuck in the small UC cabin on the A343 next to PE.
With only a curtain divider and two extremely vocal babies in PE my hopes of a good nights sleep before going to the office straight off the plane were looking dashed. But what could I do about it? Nothing we'd all paid our price and I had to tolerate the "bad" luck that had been dealt me... Maybe I'm more tolerant than others becuase I still remember what it was like travelling with babies.

In truth, the woman next to me providing customer feed back to the poor FSM for hours on end was far more annoying, and she should have realised that most of the UC cabin was trying to sleep and didn't want to hear her droning on for ages about cabin temperatures and reading light brightness. Hats off to the FSM though for giving her hours of unfaltering attention without showing signs of the boredoom I'm sure any sane human would have been feeling.
