Pleasantly surprised to see the A380 testing in SNN today. Touch and go's and full landing and take off manouveres with very severe bankings after take off. Weather is horrendous as well. Surprised to see take off roll with the wind direction from behind the tail of the a/c. would this be practical?

First time seeing this baby and boy is she big.

I believe testing has to be completed with downwind takeoffs. Normally would not be preferred in-service option, but you need to know if it is possible ;).

I saw the A380 at Farnborough. It gave (along with the A346) a simply amazing display. Incredibly quiet, too. A shame it was not in VS colours. I have plenty of pictures of both, but I expect you have seen plenty already!

Thanks Radar,

Downwind was the term I was looking for[:I] I bet the captain of the Delta 767 who was holding to enter the runway got a shock to see it powering towards him the "wrong" way.

As you say it was very quiet and very agile. No markings on this one, just plain white. Not even the A380 logo.

LOL - I bet that prompted a little radio chatter. "Er, Shannon tower, please confirm we are holding for Runway 24 and not Runway 06, over".

Interesting that the 380 was not liveried at all. Did you manage to get the reg? I wonder if it was the new Engine Alliance model?

Apparently the Engine Alliance model has 'Airbus A380' branding on the side along with all the carriers stickers who've ordered it, dunno about the tail.

After the show, we waited for it to take-off and it certainly sent a lot of flying grass in our direction;)
