Guys,
Just heard about this from a friend. So decided to check it out. I have a scheduled trip in December from JFK-BOM via LHR. Im travelling VS JFK-LHR on VS 046 (B747). The flight leaves at 8 pm from JFK and arrives at LHR 7:40 am. Now, my flight to bombay is BMI 781 and it departs from T1. I beleive VS flights land at T3. So, my connection time is 1 hr 40 mins. Will it be enough for me to catch my flight to BOM? i'll be there at JFK by 4 pm and i'll inquire about any delays to VS 046 and see if VS can send me on the 6:30 pm flight to LHR. That will give me 3 hours to connect.
Any thoughts, suggestions, criticism???

1hr40 is POSSIBLE through LHR, but doesn't leave you any time for any mistakes/delays.

Is your ticket a through-ticket (all flights on the same flight coupon/e-ticket)? If so, it'll help as they can through-check you and your bag.

If not, I'd keep everything crossed for an on-time arrival in LHR...

its all one ticket issued by VS. I just recieved a booklet with 4 flight coupons and it included all 4 segments.

1. JFK-LHR (VS 046)
2. LHR-BOM (BMI 781)
3. BOM-LHR (BMI 782)
4. LHR-JFK (VS 009)

So I'm guessing my bags will be checked-in through to mumbai.

hmmm - as Paul has already said, whilst it is possible it will be tight. here is a handy guide from the Heathrow website about transferring between terminals, so if you already know where you have to go/what you have to do etc it will help speed things up and give you the best possible chance of making it.

You have not said what class you are flying in, but if its Econ then sitting as close to the front of the a/c will mean you are off quicker etc, and little things like this could really help you also.

im indeed flying economy. My seat is 44K. So I can probably move upto 39. there is nothing in front of 39 available. will it matter if i change to 39K? I'll keep checking regularly. I'm actually planning to go to JFK early to check in and then i'll ask them if there is a delay for the VS 46 flight. If they say yes, then i'll ask them if they can send me on the earlier flight to london.
thanks for the help

Moving forward might help a bit, but you are in the front section on Y anyway so it wont be that much of a difference. Depending on what type of ticket you are on (cheap/flexible etc) then it might be worth looking at changing to the VS004 as this will give you much more time, but if thats not an option then just make sure you have your running shoes on and hope for no delays;)

yeah. i figured that out. Its a cheap fare and if I change the ticket there will be a charge of $200 for it. So I don't want to bother with that. I will indeed have my running shoes and I'll make it a point not to have a carry on baggage with me (i hate carrying stuff). I'll have the bare necessities with me (documents et all) and pretty much run to my next flight. Might have to make a quick stop to buy some deo since they won't let me carry it on anymore :)
BTW, I'll be flying VS for the first time, is there a section that I can look towards to see what I can expect out of these flights to LHR?

Look at the Trip Reports section. You will find plenty of reports both from JFK and to BOM

Have a great trip

I would let the crew know politely that you have an extremely tight connection. They can often help get you off quickly.

How do you fair on this routing now that the BMI A330 is out of service and the route suspended now? Have they re-accomodated you?

They have indeed re-accommodated me on VS 350. Which means I now have a 14 hr layover at LHR.
