Theft or luxury?

No sleep suits on the VS16 last night from MCO all wet apparently. Surprising shortage on the outbound VS15 7 sept too. I always take my sleep suit when given one as the 1st time we were given them we were told 'there you are if you dont wear it tonight they are great for watching telly in' We asked about the S and P shakers and were told to go ahead.
I agree Theft is a strong word when it comews to my little red pillow well it is still a mystery how it came home with me!

To be honest, I've never quite got over the realisation that VS 'launder' and 'recycle' the sleepsuits. I mean, would you wear someone's second hand pyjamas, 'laundered' or otherwise? Eugh!

Maybe if we can actively encourage all who fly UC to take the sleepsuit home with them, we can have the peace of mind of knowing there's a much better chance of getting a fresh one the next time we fly!

Now I agree that sentiment entirely - I have had sleep suits in the past that look ragged. I wonder how many people have worn them....

I can't agree again, you use towels in hotels that have been used by other people and then laundered and re-used, so why not a sleep suit? With a sleep suit you aren't naked or anything so I don't see the problem as long as they are done properly.

I am can answer this question with some knowledge - The hotel and other similar industry use towels that are designed and constructed differently to those used in the home. Hospitality linen is much high grade is designed to be boil washed and bleached without breaking up. The VS sleep suits I cannot be sure of as I don't know how they are manufacured but they do not appear to be of hospitality grade!

I'm not that big a fan of certain hotel towels either...

Have you ever tried washing a sleep suit at home? Unlike towels, the sleep suits are polyester and don't stand up to much of a vigorous wash. I just don't like the idea of donning a 'laundered' sleep suit that only days before could have spent at least 6 hours on someone elses' malodorous body.

And at over £2K for an UC ticket, the least we can expect is some free jim-jams

I'm sure there are people who remove all their clothing -I confess to removing my underwear before finding out they were possibly "previously enjoyed" Yeuk!!!!(who wears underwear under their pyjamas??) As has been mentioned already they are poly -cotton (and too much poly for my liking) so cannot stand the ferocious temperatures of industrial washing machines unlike 100% white cotton (which are what hotel towels are usually made of ).Call me cynical but I think the "recycling" spin (excuse the pun) is VS trying to exercise it's "green" credentials .In reality the's probably not much difference in cost to launder and cost to make in a sweat shop wherever thay're made (labels don't mention country of manufacture just that they're made "exclusively" for VS by the maker).I will be taking my next pair for reasons stated already -2nd hand pyjamas .Urgh.....[:$]

I obviously have different views on many things within the subject and it seems to of gone slightly OT (again!!) - but just to summarise for me its not stealing if you take it, but I personally think the right thing to do is ask, and I also think the VS should re-use the suits that are not taken, providing they are cleaned properly, just my opinion.

I don't take every suit I get, but do if there's a new style or something. However, I wouldn't take the salt/pepper shakers, safety card etc. When you've paid several thousand pounds for the ticket, I don't see why you shouldn't take the sleep suit which probably cost a few quid to produce.
It's the same principal as sick bags, only a bit more expensive for the airline, but people don't have a problem (generally) with taking them.
Also, people utilise UC differently as some may use the CH/revivals, eat/drink loads whereas others will not use these facilities. The different types of people cost the airline different amounts of money, despite having paid the same price (potentially).

Surelythe easiest thing to do if you have any concerns is just to ask. Crew do come round and ask for the headphones back so its obvious that these need to be returned -with ragard to sleep suits, salts and peppers,menus, and anything else - then just ask.


This last time I asked for and then took the sleep suit and salt and pepper airplanes!!

Im sure if I askedfor the duvet and pillows the crew would probably say "no" - but why do you want them? [:?]

If Virgin had a problem with this then they would either mention it somehwere or tell you when they give something out!!!

Theft? Umm. If you ask and an employee says 'go ahead' then I don't consider that theft. The S+P pots are marked, but if you ask they're usually bagged up neatly and presented to you with a grin.

I always thought the sleep suits were a J perk, like the amenity bags, until someone behind-the-scenes mentioned they're taken away from the planes and NOT in disposal bags. That's when I started packing my own.

My friends and family think I'm strange, packing my own headphones, a pj set, a contoured eye mask, and (until recently) my preferred lip balm and moisturizer. I also pack my travel pillow, because I can sleep on it anywhere - in anything, or use it as a lumbar pad. 'But you get all that on board,' they say.

'I know where they've been,' I always reply. And I get very cranky if I don't get some sleep enroute.

After reading that mention of a ragged suit, I'm very, very glad I pack my own!

(Just think of all the Scrooge kits which have been unsealed, thumbed through, rejected in dismay, and left on the seat after deplaning. Are they discarded after the seal is broken but the item is unused? I hope so. If not, [:$] eeewww! That's going on someone else's eyes, in their ears, or on their feet? Some people have lower standards of cleanliness than other folks do, think of where their hands might have been...)

Wife and baby have just flown back from Tokyo in UC and eventhough my wife said that she did not want to change into her sleep suit, the flight attendant encouraged her to take one home anyway because "It'll always come in handy". This kind of answers the question for me then.

Now then, what next...... How about a sleep suit for my 11 month old? Only paid 10% of the ticket price, but also only needs 10% of the material.

And a Sleep Suit for him/her would required someone to design it (contracted, assuming), a VS person to manager it the contractor, and a number of these suits on each aircraft; all for a person who does not have the where with all to by a ticket and probably the income to buy a J (child actors and the like could afford it I guess).

Always could design it and start a trend....

And maybe make a VF Sleep Suit. I bet you would sell a few!

I always take my sleep suit (and have asked sever times if it's ok.. even been given a spare one on once occassion) so if i'm gonna end up in jail i'll be sharing with Dean! lol
