I can't see VS going down the WiFi route as they will be very aware of Boeing pulling their Wifi system so they know this wont make them much (if any) money.

As I've mentioned before, if you have ever tried using a lap-top when sat in a Y seat, you will know that it's pretty uncomfortable and not easy, so I dont think Y PAX would do this for too long anyway. The only seats where using a lap-top in Y is really possible are bulkhead and exit row seats.

All airlines seem to be coming up with new ways of making extra money from onboard PAX. This mobile thing is just the latest scheme.

I share you cynicism. For me, whether it be wireless or phones, I will not be using them - I value the thinking/sleeping time (as well as my money) too much.

Jeremy, add me to the list please. Time to sharpen up my stare for the annoying encounters that I am sure are on the way. Interesting to hear what the CC think about this also.

Looks like the QC's are going to be a permanent fixture for me from now on in..... [n]

I would not fly on any airline allowing cell phones for two reasons:

1) Huge annoyance
2) Safety and security reasons

In addition, as of right now, it would be illegal for Virgin to allow cell phones to be used while in US airspace. Thank God!

Nope, it will be. The phones will take incoming calls.

But I would keep my phone on vibrate mode.

And many of the other 350 people on your flight won't. It only takes one phone to go off in the middle of the night, and everyone's awake.

Cheers, Howard

I'm 200% against it. I wont stop flyign with Virgin, but I'll write a lot of complain letter ...
I want a nice and peaceful flight, what's the different of sitting next to a person on their phone, and sitting next to a crying baby?

Kind Regards,
Steven

I love riddles! Is the answer that the person on the phone doesn't have a smelly nappy?

Not sure if anyone caught this on BBC Breakfast earlier this morning - from January it all starts on Emirates!

Interesting piece in the Sunday Times today - I think we all knew this was coming but its interesting to know some of the technology behind it and also the fact that it can be turned off during night flights.
