Has anybody heard anything about VS having extra flights to LAS on a THURSDAY,FRIDAY and SATURDAY from sometime next year also I was told that we are taking over the BD slot from MAN.

All this came from a staff member in Vegas. Anyone else heard this?

No, but more availability all round for vegas will be a bonus!

Any extra frequencies for us northeners are very welcome - I would welcome Vegas from Manchester. That MAN CH will come!! It will need a few more frequencies than just Vegas I fear though!!!! [:p]

Something is going to give with BMI's longhaul program soon. MAN-ORD seems to be the only route that is making money currently.

They have a serious metal shortage at the minute also, one of their 330's is in for major maintenance on it's main gear which is keeping it grounded for 6-7 weeks - They are cancelling BOM regulary to cover it.

Have scoured my usual sources for any info and nothing, no rumours or anything. I can't personally see VS doing LAS ex MAN, the BMI conenctions works fine and can't see the benefit of it, maybe another flight ex LGW which is much better suited with the CH etc.. would work.

The MAN BD LAS flight is full of VH customers anyway so it does make sense and VS do not start new routes on the basis of there being a CH available

I'd love it if VS started a Vegas route out of MAN

If it is true then its good news for us Northerners (as rightly said by tallprawn) and further increases the chances of a Clubhouse being built at MAN. More VS flights out of MAN is good, and I look forward to taking pictures of THREE Virgin 747s at T2 next year.

Keep us posted on these developlemts please VITB [y]

That explains the BMI A330 on remote stand last Saturday (7th) when I was down at MAN.

I think that a MAN-LGW route would be good and certainly beneficial for MAN as a base.

I wasn't suggesting they did - I personally cannot see VS adding LAS as a MAN route, with BMI handling the VH pax very well and with more potential pax closer to LGW it would make sense to add another service ex LGW, where there is a CH, which can generate more revenue with the sale of VH CH vouchers to B&S pax and can help be a drew for UCS pax. I am only using the CH an 1 example, there are of course other reasons such as a/c positioning etc which would be much easier at LGW than MAN.

If you think about it from VH's point of view they are currently restricted to how many pax they can send ex-MAN on BMI because of the amount of seats on their A330-200s and their allocation. BY allowing VS to take over the route and them putting a 747-400 on the route it will allow VH to send more customers because of the higher capacity meaning a bigger allocation of seats and will give them growth (albeit very small).

In addition to more capacity by using a 744. If the route was served by VS metal - VS and VH would recieve a higher yield per passenger by cutting BMI's profit out of the chain. :D

VS are good at doing this - they get a route built up using V Hols on other carriers and then put in their own A/C on that route.

VS LAS flights would work very well from MAN, although is there enough spare VS metal? Arn't things pretty tight as it is now let alone with new routes?

To add LAS ex MAN VS are going to need more LGW/MAN a/c, as at the moment these a/c are not coping too well with existing routes. Obviously more A436's are due to enter the LHR fleet next year but with extra services already announced ex LHR, like the 2nd CPT, HKG/SYD, the additions of ORD/YYZ then it is going to be a while until VS are ready to move any of the LHR 744's to LGW/MAN config, if they increase LAS ex LGW then it is easier for the LHR a/c to help out if needed.

All I am doing here is giving my opinions and thoughts on the matter, as I have said I have not read/heard anything about any other extra service so actually I don't know anything (what's new!!), but this is how I personally see things happening.

I think it would be great for VS and northeners to get flights to Vegas, but i cant see them doing it yet with a/c shortage. Maybe in a few years when they get there a340 and even a380-or is that a bit optimistic-?![:?]
