Class's

Hi can somone explain to this numpty what all the lettered class's mean, e.g k class j ect,ect thanks in advance[?][y]

The letters correspond to fare codes - you might find this section useful...

In general:

Upper Class = J/D/Z/G
Premium Economy = W/S/K/H/U
Economy = Y/B/L/M/Q/X/N/V/T

Basically, the further down the list of each cabin's fare codes, the more restrictive (and therefore cheaper) the tickets are.

Although, at first glance, it may look complicated - it's no different to cars:

BMW - 3 series, 5 series, 7 series (Eco/Pe/Upper)

Now, within each of these, there are trim levels - . You're still driving the same car as another 5 series driver whether you have the SE, the IS, the M, etc. You just "buy" different options/specifications to suit your needs & wallet.

Same with tickets on airlines.

A W Premium ticket is a lot more flexible, changeable, refundable, than the S or K variety; while essentially, you're getting the same seat. If you're happy to go with the "lower spec" ticket for the same cabin, then you save yourself some money.

The clue is my username, those words were the response from the captain of VA 024 on a November day in 1997 when the landing gear didnt extend and was asked by the control tower to divert to Manston and crash land there instead of LHR see the report link below.

Want to go NYC and back via LAX in January, why will VS not allow class S out and inbound? All I can get in PE lowest is out in K and back in S or if it's PE Flexible W/W. Is it the fact that there's a sale on VS are not allowing a mix of classes, say for example, W outbound and K inbound or should I try and ring virgin, ignore the information on the website and see if they can mix the fare's around? Anybody else done this?

The website is doing what it says, giving you the lowest or most flexible options that are available (most likely K or W), but with S being in the middle its hard to get them through the website as you cannot select a specific fare class.

The best thing to do is to give VS a call and specifically tell them you want S fares or a mixture of K & S and they will be able to give you prices for all the different combinations you require. I had the same problem booking some flights a little while ago but a call to VS and it was all sorted no problems.

Thanks Attitude, I will get on the dog and bone right now.

I've had difficulty before now searching for a complete D fare. It'll either provide you with one D and one Z or all J's.
That said the new online booking system is still miles better than what was before..
