New York View into and out of JFK?

Hi all,

I am sure this has been asked before, but when I try to search it just times out when I try to search the messages and comes back no results if I do topic only!

The question is simply is there a better side of the plane to be sitting on when flying into and out of JFK?

Hmmm. For whatever it is worth I sit on the right side when connecting on jetBlue and like the view. You probably will not fly over Manhattan as JFK is to the east of Manhattan. LGA may provide some views.

In short, no. Runway departures and arrivals depend on a number of variables, including the weather, so no matter which side you end up sitting on you won't guarantee yourself a nice view of ____ every single time.

... as Nick says, whenever I've flown into JFK the wind predominantly comes from the West so you tend to fly in over the sea ... hence no views ... you could always take a helicopter transfer?

You get to see Manhattan on the starboard side (right) of the aircraft when you fly from Orlando to Newark in my experience. Was great to see the Statue Of Liberty etc.

Cant recall seeing anything as such that I recognised when flying from LHR-JFK on the port side of the plane.....at least you see Flushing Meadows etc when driving through Queens to Manhattan.

Having flown into and out of JFK a few times, sitting on both sides on the a/c's I have never had a view of Manhatten yet[n] - but the airport is a fair way out from Manhatten Island.

If its your first time to NYC, I suggest going onto the Island over the Manhetten Bridge (upper level) as the views are really excellent, normally you enter through the tunnel, which means no views at all.

If you fly into EWR, you normally get a lovely view of the Manhattan Skyline.... but no guarantee which way you approach, so left or right side would be ok, depending on landing North or South.

And don't forget - you have the right to tell a NY taxi driver which route to take, it's the same fee.

From seeing the a/c from the window of a hotel we often stay at, you can see lots of planes landing at LGA, so I should think you must get good views going there.

Flew out this morning from JFK with AA to BDA. We were sitting on the right hand side of the aircraft and had a clear view of Mahattan:D
