I travel fairly often to and from SFO on VS19/20 and recently Washington on VS21/22.

On the SFO route, breakfast involves a fairly substantial meal, inc OJ and fruit.
On the IAD route, breakfast is a muffin or cereal bar.

Why the difference ?

I think it's the difference in flight time, i.e. SFO being longer.

There was a thread on this a while ago but I can't actually find it at the moment[:I]

I think that breakfast on all east coast routes ia a cereal bar or muffin (bar MIA/MCO AFAIK)

This change happened a few months back on all East coast flights. The second meal service in Y and W (ie breakfast on UK-bound flights) has been cut down to the absolute minimum.

Another poorly thought about VS bean-counting exercise.

Anyone flying Y (or even W) on East coast US flights are advised to take their own snacks as other than the main meal service and the excuse of a snack bar you get for the second meal service are all there is. There's nothing else what so ever other than those packs of pretzels you get with you drink service [:(!] [V]

Do you get both on the MCO route, because in PE, it was Cereal Bar or Muffin.

What is crazy, is that the IAD route costs way more than the SFO route.

ISTBC, but I think that on flights uner 8 hours the second meal is classed as a 'snack' hence cereal bar/muffin (on day flights it's brownie or Shortbread) and flights over 8 hours get a second (albeit smaller) meal.

It was a cereal bar both ways on my IAD flights. Not a muffin or brownie in sight.

It must be on flights longer than 8 hours as MCO flights are always more than 8 hours (from the UK anyway)

To me, MCO seems a bit too long for only one meal (as is 7hrs, but it's not soooo bad)[:?]

Does this include the morning JFK-LHR flights.
The VS026 leaves at 0735hrs, will we have to wait until lunchtime for a decent meal or do early flights treat the Breakfast as the main meal?.

On those early flights (VS026 and VS018) the first meal is breakfast, the main meal. Hot full english or omlette, usually.

A choice of: a selection of cereals, bagel with cream cheese, croissants and muffins with preserves, bacon roll or cheese and bacon omelette.

Some flights offer toasted crumpets too :)

I'm normally not with it in the morning and grab an orange juice, opting to eat at Revivals instead, but there is plenty to choose from if you do want to have breakfast onboard.

Thanks,
Sarah
