Virgin have anouced the cancellation of their weekly flight to Nassau in the Bahamas (source: Travelmole) due to 'weak demand'.
Travelmole also report an increase of 20% in passengers numbers on the Caribbean as a whole.

I wonder what we'll do with the spare capacity? I think the routes going to stop in March next year.

I was wondering if the latest Bond film may have caused a surge in demand to the Bahamas too [B)]:D

This had been rumoured for a few weeks now. I think the problem is that lots of people still visit NAS but only as part of a twin centre holiday, usually starting in Florida. NAS is still well connected to Florida from MIA, for example.

That's a fair point and it's actually what we're doing next year.

I know that Bahamian tourism is dropping slowly, and the people that are going there are dont have the disposable income of the people that went 10-15 years before. The Bahamas Tourist Board ran a poll at the *ahem* airport in Nassau and over 20% of departing tourists stated they would not consider returning. If the islands wernt practically a suberb of Miami their tourism would have died out years ago. Their union rules make is practically impossible to discipline and fire staff, hence the wonderful customer service levels across all aspects of Bahamian society.

A shame to lose a route but i hope the slots find their way to one more profitable. I went to Nassau in 2003, had a nice holiday but cant say i overly wanted to return, i guess my feelings are similar to those of the holidaymakers that Adam mentions.

Right, Chang Mai or Penang please VS ...

Thanks,
Sarah

LOL, I think I should mutiny and we can run the company Sarah!
Chang Mai for sure, though I'd replace Penang with Langkawi from LGW with an A343 2 times a week each with 10 less UCS replaced by Wcl and a daily BKK A346 from LHR, plus the 2nd HKG and a 2X weekly Phuket LGW 744.
Add a 2X weekly A343 to the Seychelles (alongside the 744 MRU) plus a couple of Dar Es Salaam for Safari.

Ahh well. We'll just have to cope with the new routes we're (just) about to anounce!

As much as the bean counters have been raked across the coals on this site..I can think of a few more things that would be cut first...with a plastic knife of course [:0]

Anyways...so will this aircraft be used to increase the frequency on another route? or provide more cover for when an aircraft goes tech?

How about another MCO flight. Whenever I speak to VS reps they allways tell me these a full! I am frankly pretty surprised that VS manage to fill 3 or 4 (season/date dependant) flights per day where as BA only have the one, but if they can, they should.

Even better, how about a entire flight reserved for Flying Club Mileage redemptions? VS seem to give away points for anything at the moment, you have to let people redeem them some how

Cant see it myself- MCO loads out of school holidays are never great- I traveled back in Sept on a plane with about 130-150 pax on! I personally think its demand is too seasonal. though according to a.net VS will add an extra Tuesday service from MAN thanks to the stopping of this route.

With a bit of fiddling by ops, maybe the free LGW plane will allow for the opening of ORD or YYZ at LHR. Though I think more likely will be another b+s route- of course all speculation on my part.

VS to JFK then jetBlue to Nassau. Nicer aircraft than VS and better service.
