What's a unit?

A UK unit is 10ml or 8 grams of pure alcohol. The number of units in a drink depends on what you're drinking - how strong it is and how much there is. You may have seen examples of drinks that contain one unit, but these examples are often out of date, for instance....

800 per week I thought a pint was 2 units,small glass of wine 1 unit,400 pints[:0],thats about what I drank on saturday I still have a hang over today[:$]:D

Naturally this all ignores the fact that a lot of wines are no longer 12% by vol and a lot of beers aren't 4%.

In fact, seeing as wine is made from grapes each glass presumably counts as one of your "5 a day" of fruit and vegetables [y].
