Here's a query for the experienced UC travellers on here...

If I was to book an UC return ticket with one leg in Z class & the other in D [so am entitled to 2 CDC transfers], how flexible are VS when it comes to using the car transfers?

What I want to do is use the 2 transfers in the UK, to & from the airport, as I will pick up a hire car while abroad. I am sure the cost difference to VS is fairly minimal - but will their system allow a "paid for" [on a D fare] car transfer to be used on a Z fare?

If anyone has any views on this, or has managed to do this, please let me know.

Thanks
James

Not very flexible at all, I'm afraid. They're quite strict on enforcing that only the D/J leg can make use of the cars.

I think someone on here tried before - but I've discussed with VS on the matter previously too and it was basically "it'd require a LOT of string pulling"...

Thanks for the quick reply - I won't even bother looking further into this option then!

Yep I would agree also. I have tried to have a legitimate booking moved to a day earlier so that I can stay a night in a airport hotel and that wasn't even possible. Apparently to do that the flight must be before a certain time in the morning.

I also had a Z/D combo a while back and wanted the two transfers in the UK but again no go.

You can always ask. What's the worst that can happen?

Remember you can exchange each "unused leg" of a CDC transfer for 2 days' car hire instead. Might be worth considering...

Hmmm! I'd forgotten about that but does it have to be on the portion of the leg that you don't use the CDC? For example, the last time I had a D fare from LGW to MCO I couldn't use the CDC to LGW as I was coming from Ireland the evening before and CDC's are not available over here. I did however use it from MCO to Palm Harbor and later on hired a car. Could I have had the 2 days'car hire in lieu of the trip to LGW?

the 2 days car hire are only available in exchange for 'no CDC in USA' at 2 days in compact car per CDC declined (at qualifying fare)

And the last time I tried exchanging my free limo for a car hire it went terribly wrong. I still haven't forgiven VS for that so thanks for agitating the wounds!
