Hi. I am travelling from SYD - HKG on Thursday 11th Jan in PE using my flying club miles. I booked this several months ago, and about 2 months ago I rang Virgin Atlantic to see if the new PE seats would be installed by the time I fly to HKG. I explained how I was thoroughly disappointed when they were rolling out the Upper Class suites that I missed out on using them when VS all of a sudden changed aircraft on me and that I wanted to try the new PE seats this time and not miss out again. She told me that ALL Sydney flights will have the new PE seats by December (2006).
So with that in mind, would anybody in the know know if that is in fact true? Do they always make sure that the only planes on Sydney flights ARE the planes that have been converted with the new PE seat? I will be absolutely ropable if I turn up to find it`s the old seats.

Neil

Unfortunatley the answer is no, not all the A346's have the new PE or new Y seats yet. It does seem to be taking longer than originally planned.

I think all the A346's should be now re-fitted by mid-March.

Sorry if this is out of place...is there a post where we are supposed to let people know if we flew on a plane that has been refit with the new PE seats? I flew on Miss Behavin on 1 January, and it did have the new PE seats.

only 5 out of 18 have still to be re-fitted in W so chances are youl get the new PE seats on most of your sectors anyway. Have heard from national crew that routes like DXB, NRT and HKG/SYD get the newest aircrafts - with the good seats in Y/PE as they are our routes with strongest competiton.

There is a thread here listing all the A346 PE refits. If there are any errors or additions, just add to the bottom of the post, or PM a Moderator with the information so that they can edit James' post.

Thanks,
Sarah

ok thanks for your replies guys. I looked up all the fitted aircraft and it seems a good majority of them have been fitted so I`m really crossing my fingers. The odds do look good I guess. Obviously I would prefer to have the new seats both ways, but if I were only to have it one way, that wouldn`t be so bad as I`d have an idea of what they`re like.

I would really be bumming out on luck if I got the old seats in both directions...

Don't worry too much, Neil - IMO the new seats don't make that much difference to the comfort of the flight.

It is very clear that VS put aircrafts with new PE seats on certain routes (as mentioned by JoeyVS).

And VS intended to leave few other routes with old seats. For example, the LHR-PVG route, more than half (29 out of 57) aircrafts used in Nov and Dec were having old seats. Much higher than the 5 out 18 ratio.
