I've had a look at previous e-tickets for VS flights and they all contain a section headed "Fare Details" which show the cost of the flight. I'm planning to surprise my girlfriend with a trip to the States but don't want her to know the cost of the flights. Is it possible to get an e-ticket that doesn't show the price paid for the tickets? If not, what would happen if I removed the fare details section from the e-ticket before printing it and presenting it at check-in?

In the past when printing off the e-ticket from the email all I printed off was the first page which contained the booking confirmation number and the names of the passenger(s). The fare details were on the second page. This was always accepted both at security and at check-in. I am however aware that they have re-formatted the email so you may need to look at this.

In many stations overseas, especially on the SYD-HKG route we were checked in only with passports.

Either as Christine suggests, or simply forward the eticket to yourself or your girlfriend, then in the forwarding mail you have the ability to edit it, so you could put in anything you want or delete anything[:w]

The pre check-in security screeners at both MAN & MCO only looked at the first page of my e-Ticket, which did not contain the fare details, so you should be OK with just this page printed out.

I think all the pre check-in screeners are generally interested in is checking that you are indeed due to fly that day & you are trying to join the correct check-in line. They then proceed to ask you the security questions & put the sticker on your passport.

If there was any query about fares, the check-in agent would be able to pull all the necessary details on the computer from your booking ref number (on page 1 of the e-Ticket).
