Mark - On the Virgin holiday site it states - "Virgin Atlantic has an exclusive lounge at both Gatwick and Heathrow Airports known as The Clubhouse. These can be found within easy access to most departure gates. Now pre-bookable at £35 per person for Gatwick and £60 per person for Heathrow ***(min age 12)***

Ah OK, but thats not for children under 12 who are flying on their own UC ticket, as our 5 year old practically knows Gatwick Clubhouse off by heart :-)

Alan - of course there is no way they could refuse a minor into the lounge if it has its won seat paid for - Can you imagine the "war" if they did - Cheers Keith

They do at Manchester (non VS lounges, just shared)so we don't fly from MAN. (yet another level down from what should be the norm for UC pax:- i.e. Heathrow facilities and aircraft)

Well no you didn't Mark, which is of course why you asked P911 what policy he was referring to...Hang on no you didn't, Alan did. In which case what was this the answer to.

I'm confused. Anyway how does letting under twelves into the CH rate as an UC improvement? I think it should be limited to those with some grey hair because they look more distinguished.

As someone already with the grey hairs, I can confirm that as the grey hairs increase, your intellegence and actual age decrease below 12 anyway. [:o)]

Actually , would it be ok to start a thread asking what are the actual rules regarding children in the Clubhouses as there seems to be a little confusion on the actual rules or has this been covered - I did a search but nothing came up.

There seems to be a perfectly adequate answer in this thread. Children of all ages who are travelling in UC or are the guest of a gold member are allowed into Clubhouses; children under 12 are not allowed into Clubhouses when travelling in PE or EC if paid access ino the Clubhouse through VH is being sought by the party travelling.

That's my reading but I stand to be corrected. I cannot see the purpose of another thread but others might have a different idea.

The only thing I would add HL is that even travelling on a UC ticket and flying from Manchester, no access is allowed to that passenger if they are under 12 into the buisness lounges available to Virgin UC and Gold passengers

True enough Honey , thanks, Keith. Alan thats a disgrace that if somebody has paid a full UC ticket for his kids , he should be able to bring his kids into the lounge. Otherwise they should be discounting those tickets as the passangers are not being allowed full access / facilities that business class tickets usually include.

I'm aware of that, Alan, but I was referring specifically to Clubhouses since that was what Keith had queried. In addition, I was aware of the restriction in MAN but couldn't vouch for other shared lounges.

Which seeing as it is a 3rd party lounge, with 3rd party rules (including the children rule), makes it not under VS's control. After all they can hardly agree lounge share facilities and then go round dictating how those lounges should be run.

This is a difficult situation, I agree with both of you, yes VS has to live by the 3rd party rules, however if I had just spent $4k so Jr could fly in UC I would to say the least be bent out of shape that he could not come into the lounge with us.

However it is down to the pax to know the rules before they book the flight, just a bad situation and highlights the need for a CH at MAN.

If you have booked a flight with VS in Upper, any family member, regardless of age, is allowed into a VS CH and the lounge at MAN. Pretty sure all other shared lounges are the same.

I checked with the Escape lounge a while ago and they confirm this is the case and they will allow children under the age of 12 to enter as long as they are travelling on a VS Upper Class fare.

The age restrictions only apply when you pay to enter.

Edit to add:
I've found the email they sent me:

Thankyou for your enquiry. The ruling does not apply to children travelling on a "preferred status basis with our contracted Airlines." As you are travelling in Upper Class with Virgin Airlines, then you and your family will be invited by the Airline into the Escape Lounge regardless of the children's ages.

Now its crystal clear - It means if I was flying PE through Gatwick and had booked 4 Clubhouse tickets with VH can I bring my 9 + 11 year old girls in.Thanks all for all your help to clear up this issue even though this started out at asking about improvments for UC. Keith

Er, no you can't. In the response you yourself posted on page 4 of this thread quoting VN it says "minimum age 12"

Actually, I don't think it's funny at all. You raise a query about purchasing entry to Clubhouses and then seek clarity about access for children. We give you a perfectly correct answer and then you go on to obfuscate the issue by posting:
Now its crystal clear - It means if I was flying PE through Gatwick and had booked 4 Clubhouse tickets with VH can I bring my 9 + 11 year old girls in.

Please remember there are others who will be seeking the answer to this very question who may be new to VS or VH. They are entitled to have a clear response and not have the waters muddied by someone being "funny" and winding someone up. [V]
