Some may try and get a good price if they have some miles they will not use, though this kind of activity is prohibited. See the Flying Club T&C's:

9.1 Flying Club miles and/or rewards are void if sold, auctioned, bartered, purchased (by any other method than through the VAA buy miles option), defaced or altered. Such activity is prohibited and may result in denial of travel and/or redemption of the reward and may also result in the cancellation of all accrued miles, rewards and programme membership.

Thanks,
Sarah

It's a bit off really. VS are saying that "we can sell you points but you can't sell points you have accrued"
it's like buying a car and then BMW telling you that you can't sell it on.
They are your points which you have spent in maost cases, your money to accrue and VS should not have the right to stop you selling them, especially as now they sell them themselves.
Your'e not renting them for heavens sake!

I guess the problem with there being a legitimate market for the resale of frequent flyer points is that they would very quickly establish a market value based on their highest value usage. Once a value became known then people would be unlikely to redeem them for a value less than this. Very quickly 80% of points would be being used for upgrades / reward flight in UC - which easily offers the best returns.

As an example I tend to use my points for Y travel and typically 50k points is worth about £250. If I could sell 100k points for £1000 then I would never redeem points for Y again.

I imagine too that the Inland Revenue would be even more interested in FF points if they knew people were selling them for direct profit.

All in all I quite like the current situation but it is certainly an interesting discussion.
