Jacqueline,

I would suggest that if you can prove to FC that there is a definite "trend" of flights in the future, they *may* be able to help out a bit. I know it's been done before, when a friend pointed out that simply because of their date preferences for future flights, they were always one step behind; FC sorted it out.

Call them, (can you prove future flights booked?) and talk it through with them. (They can only say no ;))

(In answer to your second question, No. You only earn miles on the highest PAID class of travel on your ticket. The only upgrade type that will earn the cabin-class bonuses are paid upgrades)

Thanks, Paul. I did try calling them to explain but they were very rigid about it and said the only thing I might be able to do is write a letter to the customer services manager. However, the person I spoke to didn't seem very hopeful. [:(] Our flights for October are booked and we'll be booking California in the next month or so. Have you any tips on 'phrases' that might help them be a bit more flexible?

Hmm...

In looking at the figures you have there, even if you didn't drop by 4 points in September, you'd still only have 11 points (including your October flight?). That's still another Economy flight off of "official Silver" membership.

That may be the problem - By the time of your next trip in June next year (even if they "allowed" you to keep the September 4 points), you'd still be way short of it again, as the ones from last month will have been removed, knocking you back again.

In a lot of cases where things are close, they will review it, but from those figures (unless I'm reading it wrong, or my assumption that these are economy flights is incorrect), you're always going to be at least 2 flights short...

I don't know if I'm being a bit blonde but on my tier point statement it said I needed eight tier points before 31st October, with two UC flights giving me ten I was congratulated on becoming a gold member and that my pack will be posted to me soon. Now on the VS website it says I am silver and I need eight tier points to become gold????????

ade, the exact same thing happened to me. See here I called the Premier Team and spoke to a supervisor who sorted it out immediately.

I suggest you do the same. Good luck with it.

Just to be sure..

If I requalify for AU early (say by 30/4/06 for a 30/6/06 deadline) does the requalification start from 1/5/06 or 1/7/06 ??

An update in relation to those people who were hoping to extend their 13 month qualifying period. I work for a company that has Virgin as it's preferred airline, up to 2005 we all had automatic upgrades to Silver, however, this was removed and despite many employees best efforts and regular flights, no one managed to retain their Silver flying card unless they had done the travel and earned the TPs at the appropriate time.

Yet another Tier question!

Sorry to seem dim-witted - I really tried to understand this. I read the Tier point guide, Virgin's T&C's, and all posts here, but I'm still a little confused. [:(]

Let's say that during my first year of tier point accumulation, I fall just short of the 40 points required to reach Gold, but then a few months after the first year ends I find that *then* I've accumulated 40 tier points during the most recent 12 months. Would I receive Gold status immediately at that point? Ie: Does an accumulation of 40 tier points during any 12-month period qualify one for Gold, or is it related to my first year or silver milestones?

(even the question sounds too complicated!)

Thanks!

Nope, it«s for the 12 months from the date you joined. That«s the simple answer, is you happened to take a flight that got you the 40 within the month following your anniversary date then that would count.

Ok, thanks. I think what I was getting at might also be answered by the Virgin T&C's, excerpted here:

Section 2.14 says "Your upgrade cycle is calculated from the current date of the month to the 1st day of the same month a year previous (i.e. any rolling minimum 12 months maximum 13mths)."

Section 2.15 says "To reach Gold status you must earn 40 tier points in any upgrade cycle."

This implies to me that no matter when my FC first flight anniversary date is, I would get to Gold level once I had 40 points in any 12-month period.

What do you think?

Yes, as soon as you hit enough points you become that level, you don't have to wait till the end of the 12 month period.

If you hit 40 Tier Points within any 13 calendar month period, then you make Gold. The upgrade cycle rolls every month.

I created the diagram that you see on the main Virgin Atlantic website, it is based on the advanced version that is avaialbe in the Clubhouse forum on this site.

you get 5 Tier Points per Sector Flown in Upper Class, and 3 Tier points per sector in Premium Economy.

So, LHR - BOM in U/C on 03/02/07 nets 5 Tier points

then LHR - BOM in U/C on 21/11/07 and 02/01/08 nets 5 Tier points each
(running total of 15 tier points currently)
and then BOM - LHR in P/E on 08/12/07 and 25/01/08 nets 3 Tier points each leg, for a grand total of 21 Tier Points, provided the seats were not booked using Flying Club miles, or upgraded from a lower cabin, or as a miles plus money fare.
