I have just got off the phone to FC AU - I asked if it was possible to combine the Miles Further offer with the PE Upgrade Vouchers from the Virgin Black Card. They informed me that it is not possible however after looking at the various T&C's on the VS website, I am unable to see anything that states this will not be possible!!

Has anyone tried / managed to do this? Or noticed anything in the T&Cs that prevent this?

Thanks to anyone who can shed some light on this one...

I haven't tried myself... However, I would imagine that the line in the T&C's that says 2 offers cannot be combined is what will prevent you doing this...:)

Thats what I thought and whent hunting for exactly that - however there doesn't appear to be anything akin to that in the T&Cs for the Miles Further or in the PE Upgrade!

But surely the fare code rules for a MPM fare is that it is not upgradable. I think that covers it.

Section 9 of the T&C

# Miles Plus Money fares cannot be combined with any other Virgin Atlantic or Flying Club promotion.

Guessing the VS Amex counts as the former.

Those are the Miles Plus Money T&C - not the Miles Further (Miles further being the discounted redemption rates for econ flights).[?]

Good point - sorry about that. Guess they'll use the catch all "1. *Virgin Atlantic reserves the right to withdraw or change all or any part of this offer at any time without any further notice. " then...

I had an issue last year around lack of visibility of T&C's for reward flights, after many calls and a few weeks of pushing the issue, I was sent a set of t&c's. It's not very transparent, they could do better.

I always work on the principle that the upgrade vouchers have to be used on full fare tickets and that you cannot combine one cheap ticket promotion with another promotion.

This is actually quite an interesting point. As far as I am aware the Miles Further promotion is not something that you opt into - any qualifying return trip is automatically booked at the reduced rate. I presume therefore that you would need to specificaly contact FC and say that you do not want the reduced miles rate.

Indeed if you wanted to apply the upgrade at a later date you would need to first pay (in miles) the difference between the Miles Further rate and the full rate before you could upgrade.

The only way I can reconcile this is that the upgrade vouchers have a maximum miles value (say 25k) - upgrading from Y to W from a Miles Further fare is now 35k so you need to add 10k to the fare. Seems a bit confusing.
