Flying LGW - MCO PE in a few weeks. My wife has complex food allergies and whenever we ask for a meal all she seems to get is a bit of cold meat and a bit of lettuce.

We are going to phone to talk to someone, but wondered if anyone has any tips that might be helpful?

Sorry if this has been covered before, but I've searched the discussion boards and not found anything.

Thanks

Hi there,

It does depend on the food allergy??? I suppose the airlines are limited in what they can do? If it is too complex for the airline to handle the only option is to eat before flying or take something with you.

Hope the phone call gets your wife something better than cold meat.

VS have really cut down on the special meals they now offer, so you will probably find it best to bring something of your own.

My wife also has complex food allergies, and its difficult to trust an airline to get it right. She always takes her own sandwiches, salads and lots of treats so that when i am tucking into to smoke salmon and steak she has her own favourites so it doesen't feel quite so bad. I do sympathise, it really is a bit of a pain. On the up side, sometimes the food on board is so bad that me and my daughter are begging to get our hands on her home made offerings. I would also add that security at MCO last time took her little cool bag packs and so nothing to keep the sarnies and salad cold. Simply go through to a bar somewhere and get a bag of ice, problem solved.

Sorry me again, i forgot to mention that as you are flying from Gatwick, there is a Marks and Spencer simply food shop in the South Teriminal now. You may find that you can pick up some suitable snacks etc.. in there

I'm talking about M&S not Asda. They have some great snacks, smoked salmon, cheeses, cream cakes and salads :D

I don't think an airline could produce a list of ingredients, but feel free to correct me if you are in the know. I bet they are full of additives and fat to keep them semi palatable for the trip.
